They can come out as they are replaceable so make sure the wire is firmly plugged into the cup

Yep, when my wire went after years of heavy punishment I replaced it rather than buying a new set of phones.

Just because they are praised for having superior build quality doesn't mean you sometimes get a pair that breaks. The real advantage of HD25s is that when they do break you can replace components rather they whole thing.

speaking of replacement cords, can anyone recommend me an online store where i can buy a quality, cheap hd25 replacement cords? I've seen some pictures of really thick custom replacement cords - any idea where to get them? ebay only has the normal ones (and kinda expensive too) and the local sennheiser dealer tried to charge me about $100 for a replacement cord

I had the crackly, having to wiggle the chord problem pretty much when I took mine out the box how ever many years ago. I also had the problem of when wearing them on my head for ipod listening purposes one cup would slide to the maximum size position. Sorted the slippy cup with black electrical tape wrapped round the headpiece at the point I wanted the cup to sit. The crackly cable I just lived with. Could have taken them back but just never got around to it.

I will still recommend HD25's over any other headphones. I love em!

I got a pair of headphones (Sennheiser HD25 mk2) almost a year ago and the sound sometimes cuts out in one of the ears. The sound returns when I wiggle the cable round a bit, but it often takes a few attempts before the sound returns. It's getting to be quite annoying

I have the exact problem on mine too and they are the same age

Rather than the cable being damaged the jack/socket could just be a little dirty.

Uh... I forget how you identify and remedy this problem...

I've found out what's wrong with them. There is a tear in the cable so the wires underneath are exposed. Anyone who owns a pair will know that the wire is sort of integrated into the plastic by a long thin indentation. Where the indentation ends it makes a right angle and the plastic is somewhat sharp at that right angle. Over time this has obviously worn away at the plastic coating of the wire and subsequently has exposed the wires underneath.

I still have warranty on them so I hope that I will be able to send them out and get them repaired. Otherwise, it looks like I'll have to fork out more money to replace the cord.

I have such bad luck with headphones, this is my fourth pair in two and a half years

I have the same problem with the sound on the ear cups cutting out (on both sides). I sent them back to Sennheiser Canada to get them repaired. They sent them back to me having "cleaned the contacts". They worked for a few weeks but the problem came back.

I agree that it is VERY annoying. When I'm in the middle of a mix I don't want to be fooling around unplugging then plugging the contacts. After a search, it seems to be a common problem with the HD25s (I have the HD25-1 II). Communication with Sennheiser is very poor because when I try to explain the problem, they just tell me to send them back. I don't want to keep sending them back and incurring shipping expense if they can't even fix them.
