Windows 2000 was my favourite Microsoft OS by a long way. All the stability and speed of XP without all the stupid visual effects/skins. When I finally upgraded to XP I always ran it with the 'classic' theme. It was also massively popular in the enterprise/corporate world; many businesses/banks/etc used Win2K until very recently (MS only ended support a year or 2 ago).

This. Couldn't care less about that new windows. They seem to have had a policy of release now, fix later. All I want is something stable, hence why I bought a mac in the end. Can't be arsed with constant updates that slow your computer down more and more, bug fixes, viruses, more updates, etc. My PC runs on XP and that's that. My next PC will probably run on Linux.

To be fair, this happens with just about every single release of highly involved pieces of software. Fortunately or unfortunately (perspective depends on the creator or end user) involved software is written in chunks by groups of people who try very diligently to make it all work together, and the more complicated OS's become, it is less likely to be able to completely debug upon initial release (I would say generally impossible). OSX isn't free from it's Lion's share (pardon the pun ) of bugs. You, I and every other OSX user has to periodically download updates and bug fixes.

Looks quite innovative, apart from the fact that they kind of copied the whole idea of Apple's OS integration of courseNot that that needs to be a bad thing of course, maybe in the end it may work out better in some aspects than OSX does now. You never know.

Agreed with Millennium & Vista, but 2000 was rock solid.

Not too sure I like the dashboardy thing, I'm not even a fan of OSX's one TBH.. I guess we'll see how it handles stuff.

I really don't give two craps about animated icons, fading webpages etc .. certainly not if its going to suck processing power and ram from "real" tasks.

I don't have any problems with my laptop that runs Windows 7.

Over dramatic, you deserve a Mac.

Anyway, I'm more excited for Win8 than I was for Win7. I personally wasn't a fan of the Win7 aero look. Metro seems a much nicer/cleaner aesthetic and I'm looking forward to seeing how application developers take advantage of the new widget-style start menu. Will be particularly good for media centres I think...

This is how my Win8 desktop looks now (after a bit of modding!)

Seems fun to use if you have a touchscreen.

But I'll just stick to OSX, for the next couple of decades or so.
