Final Scratch 2 was a Stanton-branded product, but NI was all over it. They dropped that like a prom dress when they decided to start taking themselves seriously and stop blowing the JV team. I thought I remembered another sound card that NI used for vinyl control during the Traktor 3 days, but I could be wrong. That was during a time when I swore off both Stanton and NI.



Agreed. Almost. I'm still pissed off that they dropped the direct outputs. I know, I know. 30 RCA jacks on a card would be difficult to fit. It'd be a pain in the ass. But while you were spinning, you could switch back to real vinyl with a switch on the mixer instead of having to run it through software.

I'd be willing to buy a proprietary snake for that functionality. Or use a d-sub connector and make the cable reparable by any computer geek with a soldering iron. That'd be really well thought out. Unfortunately, it'd make less sense to morons, so it wouldn't sell as well.

Oh yeah that's right they did. It's still nice that at least with the SL3 (so I assume SL4) when you unplugged the USB and it is running on external power it automatically switches to thru mode as soon as you yank out the USB cable .

I could be wrong and I've never used one so someone correct me, but it's my understanding that the A6 and A10 don't do this and you need to go into the soundcard control panel and switch it to thru mode, which is retarded.

Yeh you have you use the panel to go to through, it is annoying; i think overall it is just a not very well thought out soundcard but the multiple ins and outs and the midi ports are useful. it's just annoying that you require a power supply!

I thought this was going to be a discussion on how to make the damn thing sound better. Custom linear power supply, opamp upgrades, line level cap upgrades or removal, etc.

If you want to be without a PS then just build a large enough battery pack to last 2X longer then you think you may ever need. It might be a bit heavy though if you are using lead acid batteries

How do you switch b/t vinyl and DVS playback on the NI cards without it going through Traktor first? Is the only way to set the deck in Traktor as a Live Input or to open one of those bullshit control panels with the mouse?

The vast majority of people have never bought or used a MIDI cable because most stuff works over USB now. It's really just some synths that use them now, and you're probably not going to be doing that with Traktor for a number of reasons.

So did I. I was just going to flame NI for forcing people to use their inferior cards…then state something about how it doesn't matter because the vast majority of DJs and Punters alike can't hear the difference b/t a crappy prosumer card and a top-end one and tell the OP to get a life.

But, no, this is actually worthwhile.

Seriously…fuck the Audio 10. NI just screwed up. The phrase "design abortion" comes to mind.
