I hate to criticise other DJ's and live acts but I have to agree with the general consensus of this thread...

Saw Nero 'live' as well, both of them were there but it was just one of them mixing on CDJ's, not even decent mixing either, really rough transitions and their set fell apart in the middle when they started playing other producers tunes, with completely confused the crowd.

Did anybody see their 'dubstep orchestra' thing on the BBC? Was terrible, actually shockingly bad. They seemed to be standing at the back behind the orchestra fiddling around with ableton not doing too much. The piece of music they wrote wasn't doing too much either, didn't really go anywhere like a piece of music should, I kinda felt sorry for the orchestra.

    Sorry, rant over!

I've seen them twice. Once during ID fest in NY as regular nero and then once as Nero Live in NYC. There is a distinct difference in DJ sets. Nero Live was very sectioned off, you couldn't really see them mixing, minimal crowd interaction, none of their remixes - no nothing. 'Regular' Nero during ID Fest was a blast - dropping quite a few of their new remixes (they where new back then) and created a good feeling in the crowd (which was amplified by the rain). I won't be seeing them if its a 'Live' show but if its just another regular DJ set I'll go!

I've seen them both, Nero in NYC and Rusko at Identity Fest Indy and totally agree with you.

i thought i was the only one who cared about DJ interaction with crowd.

I saw Nero a few years back with Noisia in Austin. it was only 1 half of Nero, advertised as both. It was a DJ set, and i must admit i loved the music he played, he played many tracks i wanted to hear that night, but his mixing kinda sucked. He looked like he wasnt having a good time up there, and was just there to make his money and go (BT is guilty of this as well, but it was a shitty club so i give him that one). Not one smile, nothing. Nero is coming by here in a couple weeks, i think after reading this thread...kinda just made up my mind for me. i wont bother to go, im better off spending 40$ to see Excision next month.

This is not exactly on topic, but not worth starting a new thread for either, but which artists (doesn't have to be EDM) are good producers and put on a good show (good mixing)?

I saw someone mention Rusko. Would you include Daft punk in there too? I ask because it seems many good producers of EDM don't always put on the best show (mixing and crowd interaction included). But then seems like some top notch DJ's (Shiftee, Craze, Jazzy Jeff) don't produce too much.

I'm not knocking any artist for what they do or don't do. I think DJ's like Shiftee are true masters at their craft. I was just curious if their was an artist out there that stood out as being well known for both?

Here's where we've gotten with this EDM boom...people mistake producers for good DJs. If you want to see a great DJ set, go see Richie. If you want to see a great visual production backed by original material with amateur mixing, go see Skrillex/Nero. If you want both, Tiesto, in my opinion, is still king.

What's funniest to me is people who just heard of Paul Van Dyk, Bob Sinclair, Ferry Corsten, AVB, etc...

Yeah like mentioned earlier, Skrillex puts on one hell of a show partially due to the fact that everyone knows his songs now so the crowd really gets into it (i saw him at Electric Forest). But one of the best shows ive ever seen was Feed Me, he killed that shitttttt. He's a producer, not really a DJ, but he really amped the crowd up and you could tell he was enjoying himself. Bassnectar, PL, and Excison all put on killer showsss

Holy shit I forgot about bassnectar. Saw him in washington DC at the DC armory, insane. Also I just recently saw Dillon Francis in nyc, also great. Feed Me played at webster hall in nyc last month but it was 40 bucks, so I passed. Guess that was a mistake...
