Wow....do people still do that?

I remember starting out in the business and it was commonplace for nights to be started by the club, with a DJ behind it. And the only way to get booked was to either be a guest or pull the rug from under the other DJ and take their job. Now-a-days you tend to make your own jobs, or get asked into jobs. I thought the days of 'gig-stealing' were over, with some mutual respect and professionalism developing in the industry.

haha from what i can see, nz keeps it pretty low key, ive never seen a contract, even for when we've had big DJs from other cities play at our gigs, no contracts, although we do front the cash before the DJs even played.
either way, nz edm is still very much growing and prolly still in the old state you described. not that ive ever seen anything like this before in nz, but thats prolly cos everyone in the scene are good chaps

i guess that at the non-professional end of DJing in nz theres not a lot of money changing hands anyway so no one feels the need to make contracts. the bigger guys obviously do, so na we're not actually behind, just pretending to be.

EDIT: for example, midian just got bribed with trips. no contracts there heh :P

I think NZ is somewhat less 'professional' / 'corporate' then the states in terms of EDM, most stuff is based on relationships between the groups involved, like Kaon said it msotly doesnt matter cos most ppl in NZ are good cunts and cos were such a small country in the middle of Fkn nowhere people band together for the love of the music... it just happens that Evil is... well.... evil.
