Best Speakers For a Home DJ Set Up? And to possibly be used for production too

I recently bought some 8 inch studio monitors that I use for mixing and did not like the rokits after testing (muddy & boosted low).
Didn't want to spend a fortune (since i'm not producing) and went with a relative unknown brand 'Prodipe' (French) -> Prodipe Pro Ribbon 8

Couldn't find them below 400 euro (pair) in europe but managed to buy them (pair) in the states for $279. Not bad for bi-amped 8-inch monitors with kevlar drivers & ribbon tweeter.

I don't own them long enough to judge them, but first impression...they are awsome and in the VXT-league.

Equator Audio D5's. They're 300 dollar coaxial speakers that perform better than speakers double that price. Equator is being smart and not selling them in stores, therefore they can keep their prices low for such good speakers. I own a pair, and I bought them originally for full DJ purposes, but I've started to DJ less and less the past few months and focused solely on production. If you really want to get the most out of any speakers, I HIGHLY recommend buying studio monitor isolators, because your speakers will cause your desk to resonate and you start to lose some of the lower frequencies. Check out Genelecs if you want neutral monitors, they're on a different level compared to the KRKs and whatnot. I use 8030As myself.

Its amazing.....the amount of speakers I have come across that have a frequency response of minimum 80Hz is a joke! They shouldn't even be allowed to sell them!!! LOL

Yeah…it's such a huge pain in the ass that speakers have to obey the laws of physics.

I use KRK RP5s (gen 1, not g2) and like them just fine for DJing and general listening. They really are kinda lousy for monitors, though my only real basis for comparison with anything resembling any real time are Genelecs that cost almost 10 times as much and NS-10ms with Bryston amps.

If I were buying today, I'd probably look at Dynaudio first for a reason that most of you will think is stupid…the bm5a at least doesn't have a traditional volume control, just a single sensitivity setting. You know, that and the fact that they seem well resepcted.

Apart from not sounding like speakers that cost 10 times as much, my only gripe with the KRKs is that the volume knobs seem to keep getting bumped, so I've never trusted the stereo image out of them……it even gets annoying watching movies because there isn't a great way to set them the same except to count the clicks down from +6 to something reasonable (read: unity).

I've seriously considered taking them apart just to see how the gain circuit was done and if I could simply disable the volume control entirely.
