I don't understand people dismiss a performance program based upon it's looks- you should care more about features and performance. So long as the information is well presented and legible it doesn't really matter.

The DJ program I use looks like this and honestly I prefer it to traktor's interface.

Off topic... Do you prefer xwax's TCV response to Mixxx's? I've always wondered about this.

I got genuinely excited by this! I wonder if the MIDI mapping capabilities have opened up. On my last version there was no "SHIFT" functionality. Has it changed?

I never minded the UI--I moved to Traktor for functional reasons.

you poor misguided fool LOL, you have been able to have unlimited modifiers in vdj since version 6, it's as simple as setting the variable with

set 'shift' while_pressed

then you need to query the state of 'shift' on any control or led with:

var 'shift' ? action if shifted : action if not shifted

the variable can be any name you choose as long as you query the same name, and you can do things like toggle and cycle variables if you choose, you can even use any vdj script verb as a variable eg.

play ? action if playing : action if not playing

so using that you could do something on the jog, it could be a normal jog when playing but a browser scroll when not playing

play ? touchwheel : browser_scroll

there is much more you can do and honestly the mapping is much more comprehensive and easier than traktor.

What effects are acting screwy? If you're using windows I can probably recommend better ones. If you use OSX your outta luck unfortunately as the effects are limited and you can't use vst's..

I've been using VDJ since version 5, never had an issue with the gui. I created a custom skin to be more visible outdoors in the sun, but i honestly just use the stock skin or djdads 4 deck grom (seen on page 2!).

Can't wait to get my hands on the timeline features... Exactly what I wanted!

ah... as u know i've been considering taking the plunge into the vdj waters for a while now, the lack of effects being the main stumbling block. you *can't* use vst's in the mac version? is there some alternative way of adding in external effects?

i think vdj is looking very cool and don't understand the haters. i still hate the *name* "virtual dj" tho

it's about the most expensive dj app out there tho - so if i did buy a copy i'd have to know it would run as well on mac as windows...

from the media it looks like they are building better effects into the program, and atomix hired sbdj, gave him a mac and set him loose, he is mostly implimenting video effects, but they also have djcel who will probably focus on audio effects... I expect both versions to be identicle, but not sure about external plugins for mac though...Also on a down note it doesn't look like wet/dry knobs have been added as standard to the effects which you need to chain effects together properly like in traktor... I'll keep requesting it though as it's an important function imo
