Ms Pinky is awesome if you like DVS and if your interested in customizing it with M4L to run inside Ableton.
It's not as tight around the edges as Traktor though, but it offers possibilities no other DVS does, a deep level of DIY customization. Which in theory could be WAY more awesome than Traktor OR Serato pending on how much you can devote to patching in Max.
I kind of wish the Ms Pinky device was shared for free on M4L.com, I think a lot more progress would be made if it were. The Pinky forums is kind of a ghost town, and only a tiny group is working on improvements with it. The information about it is sparse AND there is some very misleading information about it, i.e scratching clips
Seems like the lack of truth about it, the Max learning curve, and the $100 price of admission create a lot of apathy about purchasing it.
If more people got involved it 'could' definitely shine as bright as the competition. If Live 9 comes out with various improvements along with Max/M4L improvements, who knows.
Cheers Juan. For me, Live has everything (except Timecode control and a decent browser!) that I could possibly need for DJ'ing.
Soooooo - adding Timecode control on a couple of channels would be SWEET. Theonly DVS functionality I'd want would be Cue Points that are saved.
I'd also like a visual indicator of Lives master tempo on the Pinky VST window. That way, I could visually beat-match the audio from Pinky to Live's master tempo and use beat-sync'd FX. How hard would it be to have the Pinky Vinyl indicator in the VSt "flash" in time to Lives master tempo?
I hear what you're saying re: M4L and Pinky - it's a great shame that more people aren't involved.

I am not familiar with the Ms Pinky standalone patch nor the VST, but it offers a few things the M4L device does not. I prefer the M4L device because of the ease of customization.
Making a visual indicator of Lives Tempo would be fairly simple with the M4L device. Ms Pinky does have cue points and they can be saved. The loop points are still kinda wacky, but they could be finessed.
I used to actually DJ with Live and Ms Pinky. The Pinky M4L device comes with a feature that lets you load a highlighted clip. Yet it loads the clip via naming convention. SO, the clips in Live can be blank audio, and you can name them to match REAL audio files that are in a specific folder that Max is pointing too. This turns Live into a huge browser. I found that to be the best workaround for lack of a good browser in Max OR Live. The problem with this is that Max has to search through this folder for the track. If you have thousands of songs it takes a fraction of a second to load, yet that fraction is noticable. If you keep these track in sub folders, the deeper your file structure is the longer it takes for the track to be found. That part sucks really. It's doable, but it's irritating. NOW, I have not upgraded to an SSD drive which is something I plan on doing soon. I imagine that would make this issue irrelevant.
I was thinking of building a phase meter for my Pinky Decks to match Lives Tempo. It's not high on my priority list though. I have a looper floating window which has a vertical bar that goes from left to right. Under that window are matching Ms Pinky windows with the same bar moving from left to right. This allows me to visually stay in sync if I need it.
As I said I modified rbrt23's Superlooper. This device is WAY cool. One of the things it will do is sync Live to the looper if needed. In theory you could do the same thing with the Pinky devices, forcing LIVE to sync with your decks. This would be even easier if you named your tracks something that ended in a BPM number like 120. Then upon loading a track you could force Live to sync with that.
There are SO MANY option it's kinda nuts.
What I really want to figure out is making the LCD object show a vertical waveform like in Serato, so Deck A and Deck B would be side by side instead of one on top of the other. This is possible, just havent spent time trying to get it right.
Once upon a time Bentosan was into Ms Pinky and working out the device features. I wish he'd chime back in with all of that, he's a good patcher.
I posted a pic of my rig here along with a screen grab of my Live set. http://forum.djtechtools.com/showthread.php?t=50654
Sorry to sound like a spoilsport but hasn't this has gone wayyyy off topic?
The OP just wanted to play samples synced in time with his mates vinyl collection LOL - somewhere along the lines it morphed into how to DJ within live using vinyl turntables for control using the crazy ass (sorry) ms. pinky:-S
as per thread police call outs, I made a new thread.
