How to create own flyers, what programs do i need?

I am guessing he wants to make his own posters to save money so spending 60 quid on photoshop is out of the question.

The fact is that adobes business model relies on piracy, its eastimated 80% of photoshop install's are pirated, what it means tho is kids at college and uni use photoshop so when they get a job photoshop is what they ask for. If you couldnt pirate photoshop they would use gimp and ask for gimp, this would destroy adobes market share. same with things like inkscape.

Now to the op I personally think your best option is gimp. However if you want to create posters worth putting up I would say you need to look at spending 100-200 hours learning how to use the tools. I am ok at gimp but I need to learn alot more, I am a web designer and use it and can get buy for the most part, however I do pay a graffic designer for bits and pieces

In the same respect that we want people to pay a DJ for providing music, in this realm it's equally important to pay a graphic designer for visuals.

If you want to start doing this as a hobby or as a personal interest, that's one thing. If you just want to save money... well. A lot of people want to save money on their music as well, but are we happy when the iPod DJ gets a gig?

Feel me on this?

There are some really talented artists who can dabble in everything. But I'd say let people stick to their specialties. Just my 2 cents.

Op, check out photoshop if you have the $$, if not, GIMP is good. I use it on my linux laptop, and its pretty good. Paperwise, use a card stock, and your printer should be able to print no problem.

Once you have a flyer designed, post it up on this thread, and we can help you make it better, or applaud the amazing job you have done. (And some will tear it apart, but not offer suggestions

)

i use gimp also, but i am no graphic designer by any means. I would also also get a font viewer. It helps to be able to type things out in the font before you want to lay it down. Search download.com for a free fontviewer. I think windows has a built in one...not sure...plus there are TONS of free fonts out there. www.1001freefonts.com is a good place to start. I used to do my own flyers, but i kept them all pretty basic.
