If you want to stick to dubstep go for some dubstep remixes of popular (or once-popular) songs so that even though it'll be a dubstep mix, there will be some recognition from folks who don't necessarily grok dubstep. There are hundreds of them out there; same with dnb; most of them free on soundcloud if you don't already own them. I'd mix some dnb in to change things up without stretching your musical styles too far; if you want to throw in some of your "marijuana related music" a bit of Cypress Hill or Sublime wouldn't hurt (skaters heart sublime, or at least they did back when I paid attention).

^^ posting that comment reminded me I never uploaded this mix; it's a lot of dubstep with pop mixed, gives you some idea of what I was trying to suggest: http://soundcloud.com/djproben/nwa-nanas-with-attitude

It always makes my day if I can make someone else 's day

And yesterday night I did some digging for some free dubstep tunes in places I normally never search. And I found quite a few classics remixed or stuff with hip hop or top 40 samples. And I'll combine those with some songs I already have and shoot for an uplifting summer vibe since the gig is on the beach itself.

And that pic of your mix, hilarious

Is similar to what I had in mind, synths that can intrest just about any EDM lover and hopefully the dubstep fans will instantly fall in love with the percussion that they 've grown to love.

HAHAH totally, my girlfriend at the time was in love with that song so I threw it in even though it didn't fit; did a half ass job of mixing it and it shows... Should have ended the mix right before that one.

I would think skate/surf/snowboard kids would be more into brostep than deep dubstep.
I'm not really aware of any niche of people that actually like deep dubstep, but maybe it's bigger in other areas.

If you're asking what to play that would be successful, I'd focus on underground hip hop/breaks/ bass music, and work heavily on the "I know that vocal!" remix nostolgia element. Check out some remixes of punk/pop punk.

There's quite a big UK bass culture over here in the UK which hates brostep and loves deep dub

    Silly you, this isn't reddit.

I got some ideas floating through my head, but I got 2 exams left and directly after that I'm going on an epic 4 day camping trip. (read: alcohol consumption in a forested area, don't worry we 'll be sure to keep things clean)
But theoreticly I'd still have enough time to get a mix sent out before the deadline.
I'll post the mix here if this thread isn't buried to deep in older threads by then.
