Lorin's article really hits the nail on the head.
Especially this:
and this:At the end of the day, this live experience is more important than what is happening on stage.
There is no cheating. Unless you claim to do one thing, and act like you are doing it, but are really not doing it (like lip-synching).

When people are just “pressing play” on a turntable or a CDJ and then pretending to do things for the next 3-5 minutes while that song plays, then there is a discrepancy. There are many technical ways to produce a continuous mix, and if you are miming along to a pre-recorded mix or if you are doing fake-movements that don’t produce any actual sound, then you are being fake.
...the sad thing is that I've seen some high name DJs 'pressing buttons' in a high energy way -- the problem being that standing next to them I saw them pressing the plastic panel of a Pioneer CDJ deck...
really? i don't get that vibe at all from bassnectar. he always is very appreciative of his fans and has said more than once that he basically got lucky that the music he makes ended up getting big. he was at the right place and the right time after 15 years of hard work with music which was pretty far off the radar up until a couple of years ago. every interview i've seen or read of lorin paints him as a very humble individual, so i'm not sure where you are getting this idea.
personally i'm not liking his new stuff as much as the underground communication era tunes, but i love that he is doing his own thing and i know he is making sounds he enjoys with all of his heart and i respect the shit out of that. when i saw him in l.a. a year or two ago...well that show blew my mind. the energy was amazing and his mix that night was heavenly. it rivaled some of the best band live performances i've caught. i've seen him 2 other times and neither quite lived up to the magic of that night in l.a. but it was still great to watch him doing his thing. i do like how he's playing a bit more dnb lately though, cause i'm a sucker for dnb with 1/2 tempo drumstep stuff.

he was amazing up until about a year ago, i've seen shows where he has just blown my mind, its just recently that he has developed this rockstar status, i know a lot of people that organize his shows in Canada and they all say the same thing, they have no idea where this attitude came from since he did used to be an awesome humble guy, He used to work with my friend Kousk all the time.
He's not even welcome at Shambhala anymore.
that's odd and if that's the case it isn't how he's representing himself in his interviews and on his website and social media pages. i will say that the last time i saw him here in vegas it was a nightmare. first of all it was at rain nightclub, which has an awful procedure to get people inside and the layout of the venue is terrible. i mean who builds the entrance at the front of the stage? we got there an hour early and waited in the will call line for almost 2 hours. that wasn't his fault but by the time we got in he only played for about an hour or so until he took off since he was leaving for another venue very early in the morning. i also heard him play several of the exact same transitions from other shows and even his mix cds he's released. i think he may need to take a break from touring for a bit to regroup.
