i know right! you're setup sounded better than mine. i just had an old kenwood rig (with 10's i think) and also plugged into my friend's systems and things got loud all over. my rokit 8's couldn't do that, but they do sound good when i stand in the zone.

$200 is not enough to put together a suitable rig. Spend some time renting and save up your money.

You would not only want 1 speaker since you wont get the whole perspective of the track.
It's probably recorded in stereo unless it's something john lennon made when he was 13 years old.

Save up some money is my advice, don't buy beer&pizza for all your money, get an extra job and you will be able to afford some decent speakers in no time, thats the first thing i would do!

But I am leaning towards getting two incase I end up being in a garage with more space.
Under no circumstances is it acceptable to use a KRK rokkit (or two) or any monitor for a house party like that. You will blow them, almost guaranteed.

Shop craigslist and get powered PA speakers.

I'm just talking about something like this:

A few pairs can get damn loud in a house, even off receiver power. And your risk of blowing them is quite low.
