If you're struggling to find 1.2.7, the price of Pro 2 is only 90ish dollars (Or for $110, you can get the Audio2 soundcard included).
While I agree that you don't need the fanciest toys to learn, It's incredibly cheap for the fully fledged version of the software. You're going to get all the same basic functions out of any software, whether it's Serato, Djay, Traktor or whatever, they all play music. You're not really gaining much by starting back a few version revisions, but you will likely lose money if you chose to upgrade (I don't believe there is an upgrade path from Traktor 1 to 2 anymore).
That being said, the layout between 1 and 2 is very similar, your mentor should have no troubles showing you how to dj with either version.
