Damn why are some of you guys so mad about the scratching? It's a 3 minute round, I mean scratching isn't the only option but the fact that there's over 30 years of competition history where scratching has dominated and been refined in pretty much the same format gives it a huge advantage. Not saying scratching is better than any other type of DJing or any of that, but in this format it pretty much is.

I actually had time to watch the episode b/c i'm working night audit at a hotel tonight BUT It wasn't as bad as all the comments on this board make it out to be...i'd like to see I-DEE's full set though...it is interesting that they stopped him and sent him home right away

Not mad about the scratching here. Even though some were excessive with it.

It's impossible to tell if anyone was excessive with anything considering it's 20 second clips of 3 min sets. Overall yea they seemed to take clips of ppl cutting between transitions more than anything. Some pretty awful cuts were getting props from the judges too :S.

My main problem is how close minded Kid Capri was about the iPad guy before he even heard the guy play.

yea, I dunno, it's a tough issue. On one hand it's closed minded to discount certain equipment just because it's not what you use, but at the same time if he legitimately thinks it's an inferior medium and limits DJs I'm not sure I can fault him, especially in the context of a (supposedly) high level DJ competition. Like how many awful DJs do you have to hear on Gemini turntables until you conclude they're not sufficient to become a great DJ and that if someone shows up with them they're not gonna cut it? I think there are a bunch of different options for becoming an amazing DJ but I don't think that means every option is fine and equal to every other option, in every situation.

...Besides the lack of controllerists, (and the one controllerist they did choose using an iPad) I find it a bit strange that the club standard CDJ's isn't used at all...

In season one DJ Rap used CDJs. Unfortunately she was eliminated during the scratch competition.

I watched a couple re-runs of season 1...didn't really care for the show either BUT also didn't spend much time other then my 2 post to comment on the show and the "politics" of what a real DJ is.

Because its not a FREAKING SCRATCH BATTLE.. these are club Djs.. trying ot get their name out there to be BIGGER CLUB DJs.. This is not a Competition to see who can tear up a piece of plastic faster.

Like I said, I heard this crap in a club I went to, Id pee all over the flyer and take my money back. Or give their beer back.. If you know what i Mean

The feedback from the judges is pretty insightful.

What feedback is that.. One Judge female who DJ's "fashion shows" seems to love this awful ass 20 seconds of chirp our way into the next one, slamming faders cutting into the next song with no transition.. saying thats the kinda DJs she goes and sees. Why exactly do I care about a fashion show DJs opinion..

Kid Capri? Hes bias, all he wants is solid scratching.. period. If you use effects and twist knobs.. he "Doesnt know what you are doing" Then you got the record exec. He may be able to tell us what kind of track is going to sell. But I could give a rats ass about a pompus record execs opinion of a DJ.

1 Minute auditions are retarded, and of course its the best way to weed out non open format, non scratch, DJs. They had a 1000 DJs Apply and audition, How many of those DJs work the same venue on different nights.. I cant imaginet he abundance of CLubs out there that still have a set of technics sitting around for Serato DJs to use...

This show is great for the bedroom DJ, who wants to be the next top pop 40, I spin for jersey shores style over the top 300 bucks a table high roller pompus pricks who go to the club to get wasted not listen to music. The thing that is already overrunning DC.. I miss my Techno/House

You're right, it's not a scratch battle, it's a DJ competition. It also happens to be a 3 minute DJ competition, and scratching happens to be a DJ skill that has proven to be really effective in DJ competitions with short time limits. Yes they're club DJs, but this isn't a club where they're playing a long set and trying to rock a crowd... it's a 3 minute set where they're trying to impress judges.

i wouldnt go this far. ur so far to one side that youre starting to sound just as ignorant as someone saying "You need to scratch as a DJ".

Lol, what? He's notorious for shitting on the best scratchers that have been on the show (Revolution, Total Eclipse, and now I-Dee this season). Even after Vajra did the most technical scratching the show has ever seen he made a comment that he only played 2 songs and needed to be more focussed on the crowd. How do you figure he's biased? Because he's a hip-hop DJ who isn't known for scratching at all?
