Oh right, so I'm talking bollocks then.
Here's the status
I was wrong about the other thing, it was Detlef but he did switch methods anyway. He was playing on controllers and the mixer with Traktor instead of timecode vinyl.Thank you to everyone that came tothe VIVa party, was great and a good vibe, but can i just say, did anyone notice both me and phillip from M.A.N.D.Y had problems with he playing? There was a half second delay with what was coming out of the headphones and the monitor! Ive never experienced this before! I dont use a laptop to mix! Or hit sync button! I mix manually! So was an absolute nightmare! Detlef noticed it and scrapped playing timecode traktor vinyls and used his laptop to hit sync button! Then they fixed it for sahsa at the end! I asked enough times for them to sort it out but they didnt, was so frustrating! But the vibe was actually good. Thanks to everyone thay came,![]()

I didn't say you were talking b****ks as you so eloquently put. But I fail to see how there can be a delay in the headphones. Your headphones play each cue point simultaneously. I think he means what he was hearing in his headphones were delayed compared to what he was hearing on the monitors, not that his actual headphones had the delay. That would be impossible.
Unless someone here is willing to correct me....

No problem.
Sometimes via a forum it's hard to get a point across without it coming off as a sarcastic ego comment (which mine usually are, but not in this case). It just seems strange, but Darius is a pretty straight up guy and knows his shit, so I'll probably ask him and maybe he can shed some light on it.
I was running a night once and the monitors went down in the first couple of hours with no spares, all the other DJs coped fine but when the headline act came on, every track was galloped and a train wreck and after first few tracks he stormed off and refused to play. I was fuming as I just couldn't understand why he just couldn't use his headphones!
Obviously, blame on both parts, always have spare monitors! But your headphones are there for that instance! I've had it the other way round where my headphones have given up on me so for the next two tracks I've used the lights on the mixer and getting up close to the monitors until I got find spare headphones. Not ideal as you can imagine.
Good luck with the dissertation. (Best thing I ever did was get out of that in my final year).

Yeah seems odd he couldn't manage (your bloke, not Darius). How big a headliner was he?
My first gig on CDJs was without a monitor AND one of the decks was coming through all muffled and quiet on the headphones so it was almost impossible to tell if it was beatmatched. Was an experience but still managed to enjoy it!
Cheers, handed it in a bit ago but still had no sleep. Got another 1000 word assignment to do tonight, for tomorrow but it'll seem like nothing so long as I manage to get some sleep asap.
Decent size headliner at the time, a few years ago when fidget/electro house was huge in Manchester, Leeds and Huddersfield etc. Won't say his name on here, as he is a w***er and any publicity is good publicity ha!
I did sarcastically hand him my headphones though and told him to use them. Wasn't impressed. We've all played on shit gear at one time or another, you've just got to deal with it. This particular person obviously thought he was above this, not realising he was playing to 150 people in a small club in the North. Douchebag!

So a Guy turns up and expects to play on equipment that actually works - It doesn't and he gave it a shot. It was obviously not a setup he's comfortable playing on, sounded like shite (and he knew it). Yet somehow he's the douchebag ? ...This particular person obviously thought he was above this, not realising he was playing to 150 people in a small club in the North. Douchebag!
Its the club/promoter at fault there for not providing gear that works 100% regardless of the "oh he should be able to use it regardless".
Would you like to have even one video posted on youtube of you fucking up every transition at a gig ? ..
Do you think the punters/future promoters would care that the monitors were blown ?
I agree with this in some respect. But my point was how he reacted about it. Granted, it was when I was a lot younger and beginning with promoting and had not come up with these type of issues, but throwing a paddy is not the way I'd go about it.
My MAIN point being, you can DJ perfectly fine without the use of monitors. Just use your headphones! That's my point.
