    Ultranova and Mininova have a vocoder. In terms of software, Ableton has a vocoder, Razor has a vocoder, and The Mouth can be used like a vocoder.

    use software if you need a vocoder

    any modern hardware synth that you see that has a vocoder is going to be not so great for anything else. you're not going to find one hardware synth to do everything for $1000 and are going to probably end up using a combination of hardware and software synths.

    dave smith makes some amazing synths that i would love to own... but it really depends on what yu want out of your synth, im looking at getting a moog sub phatty asap

    razor is nice and inexpensive, and has a great visualizer that can really help you learn how synths work, and what your doing to your sound
