How Many Songs Are You Averaging per Set?

I can't belive im saying this but i have to actualy agree with MDC this time...

Im dropping about 30-40 tracks in just over a hour and i dont feel like its rushed or 'trainwrecked', i feel about 2-3 mins a song is enough without the crowd getting bored.

Plus i also like to feel like im doing something

heres a link to a mix, each song is on for about 2-3 mins (deep house, uk bass) and i dont think its too rushed and flows ok... there are a few mistakes but hey im human.

Still being a bit wet behind the ears I probably only manage 12 -15 tracks per hour. I am still learning so I need to leave a bit of room for beatmatching( not adverse to using sync but figure its a skill I need to learn), getting my eqs right and some minor effects etc. But I am playing disco/funky house stuff and do actually like to let the muscians work show through rather than me smothering the feel of the track. Probably a case of learning to walk before I can run.

Transitions a generaly long and slow, but not always and I am trying to concerate on getting phrasing right so things flow nicely. Generally mixing in key unless there is sufficient space on the incoming/outgoing tune before the melody starts.

All that said I am just starting to dip my toe in the water of deep house, NY/Chicago and Jackin which all appear to lend themselves to quicker transitions and more layering, so things may change in terms of the amount of tracks i get through.

I'm about 15-20 tracks an hour, depends on genre. I mix a bit faster and layer more on trap, dubstep, where if I'm spinning hip hop or top 40 I'll let the the track play longer and mix faster between them. Probably closer to 20-30 an hour during mashup sets.

15 tracks-ish an hour for the Soulful/Deep House. Probably a few more than that when playing Breaks as it tends to lend itself to quicker mixing.

I have to agree with a couple posts above, rapid fire mix in, mix out, does my head in especially over a longer period of time. Sure it can be good and interesting to show off skills for a 10min demonstration on YouTube, but a whole night of that in a club, no thanks.

HAHA I never noticed that DUH!!! I will be checking it out when I get home. lol

You can also convert histories to playlists so if there is a great mix you did you can save that as a playlist.

for me as long as the mixing is good, the actual mix length isn't an issue for me. i do tend to hurl abuse when the dj has missed the best bit though

So true, can't count how many times a DJ has mixed out before the best part. It's like eating the salad, bun and relish and leaving the burger out

Usually I'll have 15-25 songs in an hour, it really depends on the type of set though. If I'm warming up I'll play tracks with a long mix to keep a nice atmosphere, as things get busy I'll make things happen faster.

And I probably average out at around 5-6 mins per track.

I play deep house which most of the time has 2 breakdowns & 2 drops, so I'll normally mix in the track on it's intro, and mix out after the 2nd drop.

Obviously there are some exceptions.

If you want to see your set after you have closed Traktor you need to check 'Archive' which is in the Explorer Node.
History is only a record of the current session and is cleared when Traktor is closed.
