So this whole "status" thing is already present even without the blade
That's part of my point :P A lot of the people who buy Macs are buying them just for status. They're glorified web surfers.

Sure they are, but you still mostly see macs on dj tables why? Not because of their status symbol (well, maybe for someone), but because they are sturdy, their hw/sw integration is impeccable, and they just work.

What razer is doing by not putting out millions of different laptops a myriad of hardware configs is standardizing their ecosystem, such as apple did with theirs.
This is why i see the blade as a valid alternative to a mbp for people who just don't like the osx ambient, because thanks to having only a couple of products, all the R&D can go straight into optimizing the hell outta them, which is exactly what apple is doing.

And from this comes the whole point of why i started this thread, will the blade be a valid alternative to the mbp?

    I don't really agree with that 100%

You see a lot of us here use Windows without problems, but every single newbie we get here asking what laptop they should get immediately flock to MBP just because that's what they see. They're buying blind.

Windows are just as sturdy as Macs as well. The only time I've had a laptop break on me is when I buy a budget 400 dollar Dell or something of the sort. All the other laptops are solid. I'd also take a Windows desktop over an Apple desktop any day.

I know, i use windows too. But tbh i've experienced more crashes on the windows partition of my production rig than on the mac one (hackintosh, did it just for fun)

I don't know about your experiences, i remember buying a quosmio (as a family notebook) for about 1600€ and it failing 2 years and 5 months after we bought it. And, even though i've only borrowed a MBA for a couple months once, i have only heard praises towards mbps' sturdiness.

I know my asus laptop ( a frickin' good one, qc i7, 8gb, 750gb 7200rpm and 2gb nvidia gt540m) never worked great with seratodj even when i bought a completely new hdd and installed a completely fresh copy of w7 with no bloatware on. It's always been choppy, and i see people running it on c2d mbps without a hiccup. So there is something to this.

Nice to see that there are other Windows users here who can appreciate the benefits of a Mac. 99% of laptops out there are cheap plastic and budget-oriented, and only a handful of high end machines have decent build quality.

Macs are not used for DJing because of the logo. And there's absolutely no reason to criticise someone wanting to buy a cheaper used Macbook.

Haha, the Pismo and Macbook Retina had a baby :P knockoff central.

I might say yes to your statement, however:

The hardware is really only one part of the issue, they do not as a company unfortunately control the core operating system - there lies the Achilles heel, reliance on third party software and drivers.

My honest opinion is I that a Macbook Pro with OSX removed running Windows is probably the best alternative you will get to a Macbook Pro running OSX.

The Finish looks really shoddy when compared to a Macbook IMHO (just saying)

I could be wrong but it appears that its not a milled but rather pressed aluminum (which would be more flexible and prone to creakies)

Just as an example below, minor details like screws off center, peely sticky product details, etc don't generally exist when you buy an apple product.

I guess after a few years of no ugly vent holes, no creaky casings I'd find it very difficult to go back to another brand and not feel like I just lost the lottery.

Anyhoo one mans vinegar is another mans wine.

Its an alternative I guess if you really don't like Apple products and want something that you feel is just as good - and theres plenty of people like that out there.

Lets not even go near the resale price shall we :P

^yeah fit and finish looks about as expected from razer (or most non- apple laptop brands). You can stamp sheet aluminum into the shape of a macbook but that doesn't mean it's going to have the rigidity and quality fit and finish of a macbook machine milled out of a solid block of aluminum.

another big reason I could never own a non-apple laptop is the magnetic power adapter. Usually the power socket where the cord connects is a major weak point on laptops and will easily break if it falls from a short distance on the connector or the cord gets yanked out at a bad angle. I've seen tons of laptops damaged like that, and so long as apple defends their patent on the magsafe power adapter you won't see other laptops with anything like that.

It's milled aluminum and even tho the lid has just a little flex, the casing itself is killer tough and flexless

That absolutely isn't milled aluminum... Despite what Razer marketing wants you to think, pressing a sheet of aluminum into a shell shape and then milling some vent holes into isn't the same thing as a body milled out of a solid block. You can see clearly where it is cut at the vents and how it is fastened that it is thinner pressed sheet and not originally a solid block. Just marketing using the term "milled" loosely here.

Dunno. Build quality doesn't look all too great after seeing those pictures.

Agreed on not being milled aluminum.
