DJ's arent inclined to call it that cuz they want their specific genre to be known. or they just wanna be snobs. commenting on age is just dumb. im just 21 years old and i dont like the term at all. i find that its just redundant since all dance music is pretty much made electronically. but the media needs a go to name to call something that embodies all genres without getting people angry bout it to a certain extent.

This. Edm is a broad term for all genres within the field. Although i think underground people stay away from the term as they like to differentiate sounds (deep/tech)... This doesn't make edm incorrect though

To me, it defines much of the popular dance music that is current at the moment with masses.

Mostly that stuff was included in that 'epic mashleg' mix by Daleri. Im not really a fan.

I don't particularly like the term as - like has been said - calling a certain type of dance music "EDM" is like calling rock, metal and punk "guitar music".

However, I find it easy to use it to describe that particular style of house music with "build up/drum roll/hard electronic drop with lots of wiggly sounds", the likes of Afrojack, Hardwell, Hard Rock Sofa etc.

The term that people use when they really don't know dance music that well. Any real fan of the MUSIC rather than the SCENE rarely uses that term. Personally, I think it's a huge over-generalization of the genre; kinda like calling everything with a guitar rock n roll.

Metal and punk are subgenres of rock, so that wouldn't make any sense and is quite unlike EDM.

A joke now. I usually cringe when I hear the word or term "EDM".
