Heres something interesting Mavericks seems to improve the "live" Power Balance on a MacBooks' USB ports
On Mountain Lion if I plugged in my sound card straight after restarting - no problems all 8 channels would operate as the first port was getting over 1amp. lots of juice.
If I plugged in my USB hub first and then the sound card I'd "probably" drop down to only 2 channels on the sound card as the Hub would be the highest drawing device and the sound card is designed to drop to 2ch mode when there is not enough power - PITA.
Now even if I plug my Soundcard into the Hub, and have an external drive on the spare port drawing a full 500ma I get 8 channels all the time no matter which is plugged in first /last or weather the computer is restarted or not.
So guessing there is some sort of dynamic power balancing going on in Mavericks

I'm a pretty reluctant upgrader from Snow Leopard for my trusty 2009 iMac. I finally succumbed (and sadly lost itunes 10 - hate the new version) as I wanted to get Maschine 2.0 (see my other post).
Have to say, I didn't activate all the stuff that I was really put off by (the gps tracking, the icloud and messaging) and am kinda happy to say, it's not all that different to Snow Leopard.
Apart from me cringing about the dreadful name of Mavericks, and the loss of itunes 10, so far it's not been that bad. It seems slower, and so far the only things that's very broke is my Reason 5 (thankfully cubase artist 6 stills seems ok). I haven't had time to try re-installing Reason, but hopefully that'll be ok (don't fancy having to pay for the upgrade as I don't use it that much).
But on the whole, it's not too painful.
I just finished downloading the update of Traktor Pro2 (had stopped upgrading when it went to minimum Lion OSX a few versions back), so yet to see what's new in there.
But..... I dunno, hopefully this gives a bit more life to my trusty iMac for a while. Am even almsot thinking of upgrading my 4s to iOS 7 after all this.
Was loving partying like it was still 2009 but.... maybe 2013 is not too bad a place to be.

I used to use Caffeine - now I use "Wimoweh" - free from the App Store:

You can set it so that it never sleeps when certain apps are running - eg Traktor, so no need to ever manually activate it again for those key apps. Also it can be activated as on/off or on a timer.
I'd check it out!
P.S. I'm not so keen to upgrade my MBP quite yet. I just don't get why NI doesn't get an Apple Developer account for OSX and iOS to test the beta versions of the software.
