    Default Boomkat has me puzzled...

I was digging for some vinyl that I really wanted, and wandered into Boomkat where I found 3 of the records I was looking for, but digital files only. Now, I have no problem saving money and buying digital rather than vinyl since I can go DVS with my setup, but I've not been able to find these digital files anywhere - leading me to believe they were vinyl only releases. I also noticed that some other EPs on boomkat had digital files, but said they were out of stock.

This leads me to believe that boomkat has an agreement with labels to only sell a specific number of digital copies for some releases? If I were to go ahead and purchase these files...they are legit and the producer/label are still going to get their money right?

Anyone know the deal with boomkat?

As far as I am aware, Boomkat is also a distributor, so everything they sell will be legit. It may be that those labels go with Boomkat for distribution and so have agreed to do digital but only through Boomkat. It will all be legit, the artist/label will get there money.

Out of interest what were the releases?

Hardwax and Juno both do exactly the same thing. In particular, Hardwax has been exclusively selling digital copies of all of Proibitos releases, Juno seems to have exclusive digital rights to Wild Oats. Seems fairly common now.

As for the digital files going out of stock, I've seen stuff on Juno that had a limited digital release before. I dont pretend to know why this is done, but it isn't uncommon.

i don't think i've ever seen a limited digital release, only releases that have been pulled afterwards (DMZ, Big apple ( )
    care to link an example?

    Boomkat is legit.

Well, this is bizarre...either I was horribly tired, my fingers were horribly swollen or I'm just flat out dumb. Because I was able to find the files on beatport that I previously could "only find in boomkat." Perhaps I was just searching incorrectly, who knows?

So, my apologies for being an idiot.
