    hey

Yeah agreed I dont think it'll be all THAT different, a lot of hype really.

For me, I think the Eddie Halliwell video was particularly telling with all his mentions of software.

OK my thinking that physically, it'll have a nice big colour screen which is pretty much conformed now, but other than that it'll be basically the same as a normal CDJ maybe with a couple of extra buttons or whatever for new functions. It'll still have to play CD's obviously, but what they'll be pushing is combining it with hard disk based music.

It'll come with software, not necessarily like tractor or serato more like itunes, just for organising and previewing your music in the house and making up playlists etc. Built in recording will be there as one of the video's mentioned.

You'll be able to plug in the laptop straight to the CDJ, or export your playlists to a USB memory stick, and scroll through the tracks from the CDJ screen, and it'll have some sort of link so that you can see the tracks from either deck no matter what one your lappy/HDD is plugged into. And for the changeover comments maybe you'll be able to plug into the second deck's USB slot at the same time as the first DJ, or a second one on the same deck, play your first track without a gap before the first DJ unplugs his.

Default Good speculation article on Skratchworx

    • "Form factor will be the same as the CDJ - same size, colour scheme and overall look and feel. This is about moving things forward, but keeping things familiar. Don't expect radical aesthetic changes - it'll still look like a CDJ, but updated."
    • "In a nutshell, I think that we'll see a CDJ-400 and MEP-7000 all mixed up into one CDJ sized unit. The platter will remain static, with the familiar central display, but will be uprated, possibly with a smoother platter with 400 style lightshows. And I think it'll be a little larger too."
    • "I don't think that the screen will be touch sensitive, but as is Pioneer's penchant for such things, there may be touch features. A possible NS7 style strip search feature was suggested to me this morning on one of the many renders floating around."
    • "The endless teaser vids seem to be about not using laptops or CDs and all about removable media, be it keys, external HDs or iPods/iPhones. Software will accompany the new CDJ, probably akin to Denon's Music Manager that manages playlists, waveforms and seemingly loops and hot cues away from the CDJ. It seems that you can use your laptop to prepare your music world and simply shuffle it off to a USB key or similar, making the new CDJ experience a totally self contained one."
    • "USB is a given. I also suspect that we'll see a master/slave thing going on, meaning that very brave DJs can turn up with just one device. Wise DJs will have duplicates obviously, as well as a selection of CDs just in case."
    • "With USB almost certainly comes HID, and with it Scratch Live/Traktor compatibility out of the box. I don't believe this to be an ITCH unit - Pioneer are quite proprietary by nature and are no doubt happy to offer compatibility with other industry standards, but not reliability on them."

This'll take so long to filter into the Club market... the 1000 has been the unwavering industry standard for clubs since it came out (and there was no predecessor in the CD market) then came along the 800, which was a cheaper option for clubs to take - but how many venues who aren't endorsed by Pioneer are going to take up the new model?

I'd hazard a guess that most proprietors wont be able to tell the difference, other than the cost - and i wouldnt be surprised if the majority deemed them an unnecessary addition. There's already been a solution for anti-laptop DJs to use serato/traktor without it taking the main stage in the booth (the standard 'put it out of the way' approach..) - Frankly I'm not too excited about this new player.

Unless they've been totally bluffing with the promo videos - then we might have something worth looking at

    Meh..
