Traktor Pro 2 with Ableton

Yikes!!! That would be perfect. Running a track and playing loops above it in Ableton. A dream setup (Check out KiNk). How's the stability of deckadance? It would be shame if it crash mid-set, hence I did not want to route audio from Traktor to Ableton via jackaudio. Btw, I am running on a windows laptop.

So for your traktor comment, you're back to square one, wanting to route audio from traktor to ableton is one thing (involving latency, and jack for windows is a ugly thing to set up and not user friendly) but you will get a midi clock that will drift seriously. It's a bit better if traktor is the slave but it still drifts. And I'm not even mentioning tempo changes here....
It's like that, it's not something you can overcome.

One work around is to "tell" both programs what is the tempo you want to be and 'beatmatch' the two of them (launching your first track and ableton's play counter and 'beatmatching' a bit the two of them if needs be). So either a knob/fader/buttons controlling both, with the same 'settings/paramaters/range' that would be applied to both of them, if that makes sense, to define the tempo and tempo changes.


Still wanting to use ableton and traktor? get a Mac*

But I'm not that literate with ableton so all this is a lot of noobish comments. May be insight from others would be interesting to hear.


It's not an ableton/traktor specific issue as said above: some of the vst products offer a stand alone version. Like most Sugarbytes ones (Wow filter and Turnado springs to mind as good examples: great - ie fucking great - programs) so you can use them without the need of a DAW. But you'll fall back to the same issues of midi clock drifting. So Turnado offers amplifiers type effects that you can use, some of the filters are fine but you cant' use the slicers, most of the delay samewise because those are so much linked to the beatphase/because of the drifting tempo.
Same with Wow (amazing filter vst), most of the functions are ok but as soon as you want to experiment with some of the envelopes, beat sequencing, it falls short.

If Deckadance Mini can give me multiple midi controllable cue points (missing from Ableton), DVS control (missing from Ableton) and some kind of detailed browser (missing from Ableton

Yes, not sure about dvs but I would assume so. The midi control bothers me a bit. It has a controller 'manager' with a learn function but, if you want to use shift layers and led feedback for your controller you need to be able to write midi scripts (why the hell did they choose this path??? not very user friendly if you ask me).
