    Default What's Ableton for?

I've tried Ableton like two times already but couldn't understand it's real purpose. Ok, I know you can make a mix in it for the radio etc. Why would you wanna use it live like Polish Ambassador does. He uses samples from construction kits. Who would wanna listen to bunch of unprocessed samples put together? It reminds of a software called eJay.

Alright, let's not make premature conclusions! I'm not saying he's bad or something, just an example. Want to know what's it the real purpose of Ableton.

You can do anything with Audio in Ableton. Make music, make mixes, make fart noises, etc.

Ableton is a "Digital Audio Workstation" (DAW). DAWs are used to record, edit, and mix audio on a computer. There are a wide range of commercial and free software that can be used as a DAW.

    With a DAW...

You could trim all the silence from the beginning or end of a track.
You could loop the intro of a track to make it easier to beatmix with another program.
You could change the tempo of a track. (In Ableton, this is referred to as "warping" and can even "correct" the tempo of a track with a live drummer, or that was recorded from an analog source.)
You can change the volume level of a track.
You could add sound effects of samples to a track.
You can record audio from a mic, or a turntable, or a tape recorder, or from the output of a hardware mixer.
You can separate audio samples into multiple tracks while working with it.

AND...you can produce (e.g. compose) your own music from any sources of audio that you happen to have: sample packs, MIDI instruments, existing tracks, samples you record yourself - any audio sample that you have can be used.

So, it's fully functional DAW like ProTools, Cubase etc. Thanks for clarifying! I though it's just for putting audio samples together.

Ableton's actually a company that happens to make a couple products, one being Live - which is a handy DAW.

    But I digress...
    2 x Technics 1210 MKII, Pioneer-DJM 900 Nexus, Traktor Scratch Pro, NI F1,
Ableton Live 9.6 Suite, Ableton Push, Studio One 3, Moog Sub37, Roland Alpha Juno 2, Korg MS-20 Mini, Yamaha TG-77, TR-8, Rhodes MKI Stage, Wurlitzer 200a, couple pedals, couple amps, lots of software and a freakin iPad
