Default Purchase help: Machinedrum UW MK 1 VS Machinedrum SPS MK 2 VS Push + Max For Live

    Hi,

I have the opportunity to buy either Machinedrum UW MK 1 VS Machinedrum SPS MK 2 VS Push + Ableton Suite Upgrade for a similar price.

I'm very keen on using parameter locks as a performance and composition tool. The above 3 are choices which I've narrowed down my search to. Sadly the UW MK2 is outside my budget.

The Machinedrum UW has awesome sampling manipulation. I can load up one shot chords/ notes to handle melodic content and I can do live remixing with the ram machines. The downside is that being the MK1 I have to work within the boundaries of 2 bar pattens.

The SPS MK2 can do 4 bars but looses the 'in the box' sampling benefits. A workaround could be to sequence a daw like ableton or renoise and run the audio through the two machine inputs.

On the other hand I could get Push and Ableton Suite upgrade (from intro) and use max for live to emulate the machinedrum synthesis (especially the fm drums) https://youtu.be/UzOGc1JzMgg . Push is also capable of parameter lock style sequencing and I could fiddle about with global macros to achieve a Machinedrum CTR-AL effect. The downside is that the push controller might be a bit to big to fit in a DJ booth when gigging. Also if I want to emulate a machinedrum I might as well get a machinedrum?

Currently I'm leaning toward the 'SPS MK2 sequencing a daw' setup.

    Would appreciate any advice.

    Thanks in advance, James.

PS: I do have a maschine mk2 (owned for 2 years) which is great for composition but I struggle with it live, this is down to some workflow gripes. I also can't get the parameter lock and drum synth to work in a way that is similar to the machinedrum. I use the sampler to do hip hop beats with maschine but my sp 404 has taken over that domain. Thought I should mention the maschine as the problem might be me rather than the gear!
