    that's a good one!

I have a questions though. Doesn't Joel use pre programmed elements in his sets?

Considering last year at Ultra he played the EXACT same set twice, he is the last person who should be trying to call out DJ's

I don't get whats so bad about using samples or loops... or even factory patches...

In terms of "what is real DJ-ing"... clearly lip synching is not... BUT... beyond that I think the value of this sorta criticism can be sorta ontological / episotmological aspects of aesthetic experience. With a musician.. very often we appreciation the musicians skills / craft.. is a big part of the appreciation... BUT... if you listen to a modern record versus John Coultrain... you know Coultrain actually made that performance.. that the record is an actual record of sonic events as they happened... where as in modern music... we know it's not.. and that changes how you appreciate it.

And so I think you have different conceptual paradigms sorta framing how we appreciation stuff... that are kinda competing... and I think that's all it is really.

I think the mistake is to identify your self with a particular framework...
