Very impressive. Can someone be so kind and tell me what I need to map via controller manager Out? IE: what is the mapping command in Traktor called? I looked through all of the Out types but none stood out.
Spoke with NI and they where not sure a needle point item is available for mapping. They are checking.
I thought these were HID in both Traktor and Virtual DJ... Yes, no?
I don't understand why Denon went the route of VFD. I realize those are best for scrolling horizontal text or changing fixed numerals rapidly in a small space since there's little blur and they are bright & high contrast, but significantly-sized & resolution low latency LCDs and even with touch are quite cheap. For the last 5 years you could get cheap little prepaid touch phones with screens like that. Ditto with wifi chips and antennas. Cheap, ubiquitous hardware that is easily implemented with something that already has an Ethernet port on the board. Did "market research" dictate these choices, similar to their not-so-prescient dumping of rotary options on their mixers? If they were truly worried about costs to manufacture and doing useful market research, they should have dropped the CD mechanism.

These CDJs suck. I'm sorry...
I got mine on sale for around $400, and the thing had static issues from the start. The screen is garbage; it can't be used with Serato; it has trouble reading certain music files; it feels solid--but not as high quality as a higher-end Pioneer CDJ; etc...
I ended up returning it. Even at twice the price, I think the XDJ1000s are a much better bet.

I'm not shelling out a grand for a transport when it's missing a S/PDIF. Heck, they even removed the high-end DACs from it. No thanks.
Edit:
Apparently, Engine has been abandoned by InMusic. It's Torq 2 all over again.

Rant summary from youtube:
"If you don't need to use Engine with iPad for track selection the review is accurate because the hardware is fine."
I would add to buy decks from a local shop to avoid problems with "lemons" (and yes, it's sad to see Denon have final quality check issues).
My opinion is that the idea was fine (basic CDJ-1000mk3 screens to minimize the price, expand with iPad to have big screen in colour for those who want it) but Engine wasn't near ready and when inMusic bought DenonDJ brand that has slowed down to such extent that the user base is furious (I have not seen anywhere that it has stopped mind you).
Serato boys screwed them over with MIDI-out on Serato DJ (LEDs worked with SSL but changed output on SeratoDJ is not compatible with Denon) but they still work pretty good as controllers for software (midi or hybrid midi/timecode mode).
Virtual DJ has added them as HID controllers from version 7.4 (hell, even the LED ring around the platter works)
They are priced as a CDJ-850, right? That also don't have digital out or high-end DAC (neither does the XDJ-1000). Don't you think you were expecting too much feature wise?

I'm gonna be honest--I don't understand half of the acronyms you all have been using, so it's hard for me to respond without looking like a complete fool.
I just felt that even for $400 these CDJs were a disappointment. Even when they were working well, they didn't do anything for me.
