I was pretty dissapointed when I first tried out a mp 2015 ... the knobs are flimsy and very plasticy, the silver caps are glued on and fall off. The source selector knobs are loose. They didn't keep up with the marketing promise they gave.
Overall a great mixer with great sound. But in the end massively overpriced!

Did they improve the quality of the Knobs in the newer version?

I saw you compain on other forums, looks like you're the only one to stumble upon a shitty unit.

Ditto. MP2015 and MP2014 use the same exact knobs as used since 1999 on MP2016/XP2016 (as well as Rotary version of Empath) which I've never had any issues with. For over two decades now and countless DJs have been using them and never heard any complaints from any of them either. Feeling is subjective of course, but have never had any that are loose or had caps falling off. No idea what may have been going on with the particular one you tried out.

While we're on the subject: I'm a huge Vestax aluminium knobs, I was wondering if the Rane knobs are standards and easy to swap with others?

Can you do me a favor and pry off one of the knobs and show me a pic of the back of it.
I might be possible that the unit I played around with was some kind of pre production or so. (was a unit used in the industry for testing)
The feel of the knobs didn't match the quality of the rest of the unit at all.

I compared them to the knobs on the E&S DJR 400 and those felt way better.

Here ya go. MP2014 and MP2015 use full metal shafts thru-bolted to metal chassis throughout for all knobs (except for source selectors).

Guessing something must've been way off then with whatever you sampled because the MP2014/MP2015 knobs feel great IMO. Rock solid, no side-to-side wobble, super smooth with just the right amount of resistance.

If they were able to put the TTM-56 crossfader in this without destroying the aesthetics I might have my money out despite how overpriced it is. It's beautiful and I don't doubt the sound quality, and in terms of interface it ticks every box I have except for the cross-fader.

Haha! Never tried one (tho I have used the regular version in Guitar Center before), but the empath was definitely on my shortlist of droolworthy mixers for a very long time. Of course, no computer interface meant it kind of got left behind in my search by the A+H DB4 and the Ecler Evo5 (as well as the Denon DN-X1700). I've been using the DB4 for the last several years but recently dusted off the Evo as the DB4 was in the shop after my apt got flooded. Picking the DB4 up tonight but I've kind of grown attached to playing with the Evo lately and I might keep that one out as my main mixer for a while.

And yeah, owning 2 top shelf mixers already I definitely shouldn't even be thinking about the new Ranes. But damn if they aren't the sexiest mixers I've ever seen....

really love the look of this thing but i don't think it's worth the street price. might as well just get a 2015 at that point (which is also overpriced but still a better deal).
