Recording from Xone 92 with ZOOM H4N

I tried to record my sets from Allen & Heath Xone 92 with my new ZOOM H4N recorder. But when i connected line inputs (TRS) of H4N to Rec Out of mixer, input signal was too hot. Even with Rec Level = 1 on H4N i've got a lot of clippings. Master out on Xone 92 pretty normal, not in red zone for sure. I saw what many djs using this recorder for recordings from mixer. Is my H4N defected or where is some secrets to properly record mixes with this device?

I have heard that the Zoom recorder (and others) attenuation for line level inputs is not good enough to record the hot signal coming out of the mixer. You'll need a pair of something like this something like this or this in order to attenuate the signal to a lower volume so you can get a clean recording. I've used the latter option (since it was cheap and fast) several times, and it works like a charm with my buddy's Tascam recorder which had the same problem your Zoom is currently experiencing.

Just to let you know, the Xone:92 has different dBu's depending on which output you use. Have you tried the other outputs? I would suggest using the record out and adjusting the volume from there.

Master out on Xone 92 pretty normal, not in red zone for sure.

Record out output on most club mixers depends on the channel level, keep it down and you won't have problems.

Channel levels on mixer also in green zone
I make record level on H4N's line channels around 1-2 and have overloads anyway

You need an attenuator. Search the forums, we've spoken about this several times in the last six months.

Just get a £10 attenuator off ebay. You'll need an extra RCA cable, is all.
