But then again I could just stick with my original idea of a Windows Laptop from Harvey Norman once I get my VCI and Audio 2!

    I'd avoid it.

    It's a Dual-Core rather than a Core2Duo.

"Anyway, it seems that these two chips are pretty much the same except that the Pentium Dual Core has a smaller cache, no virtualisation (VT) and in most cases, a slightly slower front-side bus. So the main difference is the branding and the price. Hooray."

I'd also like to chip in with a bit about Macs.

I've recently swapped to a Mac and ignoring everything else the one major factor for me is the build quality of the macbook, it's quite frankly amazing.

The only laptop I've seen come close to the level of build quality is an IBM/Lenovo thinkpad, and as far as I recall they are priced comparably to Macbooks.

The truth is, you get what you pay for. So consider carefully what you want to use it for, and how long you want it to last before parting with your cash - this stands true for any laptop.

    Hey Mmauve,

Checked out that RJtech.com! Get a pretty cool system for couple hundred $ cheaper than a maxed out Macbook 13"

But when I do the conversion rate and stuff, I may aswell just go with the 4gb, 500gb, Macbook 13"!

Again, it looks like a Dual Core rather than a Core 2 Duo. The Dual Cores aren't *BAD* but your Core 2 Duo has just that little bit more oomph, and I suspect will serve you better in the long run.

I had much the same issue a while ago, my budget was as close to £350 ($600 AUD) as possible.

In the end I got lucky and found a second hand 13" Macbook for right on budget! It looks as good as new and has been rock solid ever since
