    So what does it mean:

"Trigger a clip as you would normally, and it cues right into Ms. Pinky for scratching (see Lee in comments for more, but do note that the catch is that Ms Pinky actually loads the original file, because clips in Live don’t yet provide access to their playhead)"

Does that mean that a loaded clip will start at the beginning of the file when you go to scratch it? Or does it mean that Pinky will just be less efficient than if Ableton plays it? So confused.

    Check:

You could use in absolute mode or relative mode and automatizate clip scratching (making your own battleweapon) like Ammobox.

Exactly ! Except its Ammobox with a commercial grade timecode, which is pretty nuts.

I was thinking about getting Timecode for Traktor recently, but have dumped that idea and i am going to instead grab some MsPinky timecode and use my existing soundcard along with M4L.

Theres no reason without enough hard work it will be possible to replicate the features of Traktor within M4L, no more waiting around for NI to give you what you want, you just work hard enough at it and it will come - or just sit around and wait for someone else to do it for you which personally isn't my style.

Needless to say I am reaaaaaly exited about getting going with Max4Live !

As for the comments about the plugin and how its loading the samples - What the plugin is doing is reading which file your launching in Ableton, then instead of controling the playhead of the clip within live, its loading it off your hard drive and pulling it into Max MSP. Ideally the clip would play from within Ableton and the M4L would have direct control over the playhead from within live - as soon as that happens i am sure there will be someone who puts out the code to use MsPinky control vinyl to directly control the playhead from within live.

    Hope that clears it up

I think I'm with you on this one. The upgrade to Traktor Pro Scratch is too expensive for me especially when I already bought an Audio 8 DJ card (actually 2 since I lost one) and I've purchased Traktor Pro (rather than pirating like I do a lot of stuff).

So question, I read on the Pinky site that they have timecode CDs as well. But I looked in the store and didn't find any available for purchase. I also wasn't clear whether the Pink VST works with anything but the vinyl as timecode CDs weren't mentioned. Do you know if Pinky still supports its timecode CDs anymore?

So question here too... It sounds like there's a free version of Max4Live that you can use to run Max4Live apps. Is Max4Live purchase only required if you want to develop Max4Live stuff? Do you have to purchase Max4Live to use the Pinky VST?

No runtime of M4L, yet at least. You need to buy M4L to use the M4L patch. The pinky VST (which is different from the m4l patch) is usable in any VST host

    1) This is from the MsPinky site - "A free sample of the control signal is available for download now to Members of Ms Pinky's Fan Club. To obtain all four (4) unique tracks please send an email to <factotum@mspinky.com>. Both the download and the hardcopy CD are only available to members of Ms Pinky's Fan Club."

    2) Sadly need to buy M4L to even be able to use other peoples plugins, its $300 but i personally think its worth every cent - that $300 gets you ALOT of plugins that would otherwise end up costing you a lot more if you bought them individually.

    3) Whats being explained here isnt the ms pinky VST its a M4L creation, there is however a VST but it doesnt have the same functionality as whats being talked about in this thread. Long term the M4L pluggins are going to be something wicked.

I cant wait until the playhead is controlling Live, that way we will be able to utilize Abletons time stretching and warping among being able to do all sorts of cool other stuff !

It's just TOO exciting. Pinky M4L app might just be a Serableton killer. Ableton and Serato had better be keeping a close eye on what the M4L/Pinky guys are up to...

A good file browser is still lacking in live... That's one of the main attractions of SSL for me. But pinky is really cool. In one way they are opposites. One complementing dvs with ableton, and the other is complementing ableton with dvs.
