This is something that i have argued many times on the NI forum.
Split Browser to see your Prep list and Track collection is something that i banged on about a long time ago.

I made this mock up 3 years ago for Traktor 3:

Yeah i understand that dude. I accept that but its not just hearsay that I base my dodgy opinion on. It is based something a bit better than that, not much better granted but... enough for me.

Rob, it really might be true that Traktor is outselling Serato for the last months. NI marketing is doing amazing job. The 50% off + the cheap upgrades for T(S)P 2.0. S4 is also very popular.

I'm just sayin that those buying a new Traktor * are likely to be more than those buying a new Serato *. It's just because the prices are better, and it's heavily advertised. The perception is "Shiny and Powerful".

That doesn't change the fact that obviously SSL still stays the preferred product in US and has the HUGE user base. It's just about the new sales. Will it stay - we'll see

    Cheers

OK, here's my 2 cents. Most of the DJs I know started with vinyl or cds. A few years ago they started migrating their music libraries to laptops and using dvs.

If you weren't a computer geek Serato made sense. Just add another piece of gear to the rig and do what you've always done without having to lug crates. And just like most other gear choices (Techincs tts, Pioneer cdjs, etc) you get what the clubs have and the pros use.

On a side note, myself and the 2 other controller using djs I know (small town!) use VDJ and I have yet to see someone using Traktor at a gig, though I expect to see it start popping up with their new products and increased marketing.

Intoxicated /adj./ When you feel sophisticated without being able to pronounce it.

    So, still anecdotal? OK, thanks.

Incidentally, your measure of "this system had trouble with x software, but no trouble with y software" doesn't actually mean that the problem is with x. It's suggestive, perhaps, but not conclusive.

Understood, but reasons don't interest me. I DJ at a semi professional level. While I don't do it for a living anymore, I do still do a weekly night. Because of that, I have a certain level and group of expectations out of my equipment. One of them, is that I have a high expectation of my DVS. I expect it to work everytime, (which it does for the most part) and I expect a product to work seamlessly out of the box without having to do any work tweaking it. I don't expect to go to dunkin donuts and have to add sugar and milk to my coffee. I don't expect to buy a movie ticket, and lower the lights or tinker with projector settings. in that same vein, I expect my software to work properly right out of the gate if my system meets the minimum requirement. It's not a higher/lower or right/wrong stance as a customer compared to yours. It's just a different one. I just expect problem free useability without tinkering when I buy certain products. Rane offers that. Traktor (at the moment with PC's) does not for many if not every person I know. If that changes with TSP2, I don't even know if Serato stands much of a chance any more.

I have the same expectations, bro (I play weekly on NSB Radio). Traktor has worked seamlessly, without tweaking, for every person I know who has used it.

*edit* Although I'm pretty sure that all the people I know who've tried it are Mac, so maybe that's the difference?

I'm not trying to make you wrong, btw. I'm just trying to get you to stop posting anecdotal experience as if it's general fact.

Started off with Final Scratch v1..and sold it within a week.

Got Serato... for basic A/B mixing it does the trick, but the sound quality was a issue with the SL1 boxes...and the unjustified price of the SL3 boxes didn't make any sense to me.

Bottom line, Traktor offers so much more at a cheaper price.

    The choice was obvious.

Fact is relative in this case. There is never going to be hardcore solid proof solidifying anyones case on reliability with a product that is for a niche audience. It is what you experience, and the FACT of my experiences is what I've seen first hand. If I had only seen a handful of people who needed to tune their PC systems and they were a minority, I wouldn't even mention it.

By PC you mean Windows, right?

    That's the problem.
