Interesting to see those benchmark scores. There's a full list including all previous Mac's (even way back to the Power-PC era) @ http://www.primatelabs.ca/geekbench/mac-benchmarks/.

My current Black MacBook, still works just fine...
    MacBook (Late 2006) - Intel Core 2 T7200 2.0 GHz (2 cores) = 2603

The new 13" MBP base model...
    Macbook Pro 13" w/ Core i5 2.3 GHz = 5900

That is an impressive score jump on memory/processor performance if I was to upgrade. But I have never had any hick-ups or performance issues with Ableton, Reason, Traktor... anything that I use. I guess I'll still hold back for now, at least until they give a screen resolution upgrade. Maybe the late 2011 models, or maybe the complete refresh coming in 2012. Maybe I'll wait for the next 13" Macbook Air. Hope my MacBook keeps working strong until than.

No, ableton uses multiple cores (don't know about hyper threading) but Traktor doesn't.

I've been looking a bit more into this thunderbolt thing, it's the business. Daisy-chaining 6 devices on one port including external HDs and a monitor on the end? Yes please. Shame it uses a MDp connection, it would have been possible to use USB then you'd have had the port to end all ports...

And as for the hardware...as expensive as it is, it does take a beating...mines been through quite a lot, gigged hard, but still does the job just as good as it did when i got it.
Miles ahead? Hardly. For DJing buying a mac is a safe bet because I'm pretty sure companies like NI and Serato develop their software mainly with OS X in mind because that's what the DJ market primarily uses.

After having used a mac pro for long enough doing some digital imaging in photoshop and illustrator, OS X does crash too...I can tell you this. Both OS X and Windows have their ups and downs. Wouldn't touch a mac with a 10 foot pole if I wanted to game. Likewise, I wouldn't bring my 17'' beast Asus desktop replacement with me somewhere to DJ. As far as hardware reliability I think I'm covered though. Different strokes for different folks, just make sure you do research first.

ive used mac's for work, everyday for the last 6-7 years, first in the magazine publishing world, and now in broadcasting. when i worked at the mag, i had a mac crash on me once, but since then it has never happened. software crashes on the other hand, yes...usually the niche stuff not widely used, but thats it.

I do have a windows machine too, still running XP....built it around 5 years ago, had to reinstall XP a good 4 times.

i wouldnt use a mac for gaming either...but im not a gamer, lol so its no biggy

i was thinking the same thing when I was called a apple fan boi two days ago on this thread. Ill admit...Im a fan boi for stuff that works.

Thats why I drive a Ford SUV, own a Jeep Wrangler and buy Apple products...the stuff works and gets the job done and I pay extra to make sure it does what they say.
