So just did a bit of resaerch on the SL4 (wasn't aware it hadn't been released yet) - looks like Rane and Serato are trying to stamp thier dominance on the clubs with the 2 usb thing. From what I can tell they have a pretty cool thing where you can assign channels to two laptops hooked in at the same time. if you have two channels, you can assign one to each laptop, or if you have 4, you can assign 2 to each laptop. You just need to select which channel to go where in Serato. Apparently you can even hook up non-serato software to the SL4:

"i was watching the a ustream on the namm show and one of the serato katz confirmed that you can rock sl with another sl or different programs like abelton, traktor ect... all at the same time with the sl4 "

From the leaked info about the a10:

"Hardware Auto Detection and Direct Thru allows seamless transitions with other DJs in the booth"

it doesn't look like NI has gone this far. Although they have made it easier to transition between traditional and traktor DJs.

afaik, all Rane/Serato products work for Traktor even now. but they work for Traktor Pro only - that's because of the new ASIO/CoreAudio drivers. They unfortunately are not Scratch Certified though, so you can't use them for DVS.

Not that they can't become DVS capable, they well can, but it is only about politics ...

geez ... reading the NI forum, mixarchitect hints that even the DB4's certification is not a closed decision and customer requests would help it ... if DB4's certification is under question, what remains for the Rane products ...
