as for switching up speeds, as i use midi slave on all 4 decks, i just adjust the master tempo up during a mix. try to keep to tracks that sound 'harder' than the one i'm mixing into when i do this, just makes more sense to me that way.

use break downs for slowing things down, wind down the speed of the breakdown and then mix the next beat in.

Yeah, don't be afraid to take the tempo DOWN in your set, given you are sharp about your track selection and transitions. People like to breathe, and have a few minutes of decompression, and it works so, so well if you do it right. The contrast just makes your next build up to a high tempo that much more intense. If you've ever seen Bassnectar play live, you know what I mean.

varying tempo is always a great way to add to your sets, its even a necessity with artists like bassnector. the great thing about TP is the countless ways to vary tempo, i know when my friend Bit[c]rush play out, we vary through lots of genre's midtempo, dubstep, DnB, Breaks, what ever we want. there is so much good music out there and to us, playing on one tempo for hours on end gets really boring.
