Yeah the laptop should always go to the side in my opinion, its worth getting used to it because a lot of booths aren't deep enough for both a mixer and a laptop being directly in front of you...

As for the vci thing, i think its a good idea, the efx 1000 is a lot more expensive and the midi mode is a bit rubbish so if you have the money a vci for fx would be good fun, you can get creative and still keep your original set up.

I don't really understand how you can categorise the EFX with the VCI... If you want external effects processing - then VCI's fairly useless!

@sedman (lol) does the EFX have USB?

When you rock out on the vci, people notice.
Exactly! It looks like your actually jammin out with your music with the Vci on fader fx and beat juggle modes. I think the vci looks way more fun and intuitive then the x1, efx1000 and any of those korg fx processors and coming in at about the same price as the efx1000 I think it would be a good idea. I just was thinking of a way to bridge the gap between DJing with midi controllers and DJing with tables/CDjs and this is what I came up with.

well... I'd say its actually like, half the price of the efx 1000, as you can use any vci with 1.3 fw for an effects processor, which you can get for as little as 290, if you search for a good used one (got mine here on the site)

For $290? Wow that is a pretty decent price for a Vci...Ive never seen one instock for less then $370. What forums should I lurk around on to try and find a deal like that?

Well, I got mine used for 300, have seen one for 290. The one I got was in perfect condition, with just a little wear on the top of the bottom knob. 315 is a pretty common price for used vci's, and you can probably find them for around there here on this forum if you wait around.

No mate. Midi out. (and in). I got a standard midi to usb cable to plug it straight into my lappy but i don't use it. I think you can compare the efx with the vci if you're considering its use as an fx controller. Both give you interesting ways of exploring your bank of fx and making them sound interesting.... but in general of course the efx and vci are completely different...

I'd love to play with and EFX 1000... unfortunately I dont see myself dropping 800 anytime soon. It seems like a wonderfully versatile device.

Yeah it's incredible! I'm working on trying to incorporate it more into commercial sets as that's where my work is right now. I didn't think it would actually be of use for stuff like that but it actually helps so much with making dynamic build ups and that kind of thing. I was going to sell it but i did a gig two nights ago with it and now I don't want to let go of it!! Shame its so bloody big though.
