right click on my computer and go to properties...it will say what OS you are running. office is a seperate install from the OS, XP, windows 2000, etc.
is the file actually being saved on the computer as a .zip file or is it maybe not saying that extension which would make the computer ask what program to use.
yes, you can use a usb to midi controller, but then you will have to power the mpd, midi doesn't power things...you can get a power adapter or you can power via usb (just don't install usb drivers, which shouldn't be a problem for you)
good luck.
well its xp proffessional and it says can not find the file to open with it. So i think that the file dosnt contain the ext. needed

you won't have that little driver app that changes mappings, you will have to change midi mappings on the unit itself if you want to change what the pads/fader output (there is a sticker describing it on the bottom of the unit) but if you are using it like this with a computer/software than shouldn't matter too much, just use midi learn in your audio software and have the software learn what the outputs are.
stock XP should be able to open a zip with no other programs installed, right click on the file you downloaded and do you see extract as an option?
you could always extract the file on a different computer and then transfer the exe to the music computer
Mine works flawlessly always had.
make sure unzip that driver and locate it somewhere like my documents. Never move it. For some reason it like to un-install itself and it will look in the last place the driver was located.
try to use the same usb port.
All should be well after that.
