I just looked what they have posted and say the academic version on ebay:
http://cgi.ebay.com/NEW-Native-Instr...item255938f03f
do you know who you spoke with. If you can please PM me the details so I can jump on this deal as well.
Thanks
Heres the info on EDU purchases.

Dont let any eBay seller misinform you. Many will tell you that you can sell/transfer an EDU item if you want. YOU CANNOT.
EDU items are much cheaper because of the restrictions.
As for buying Traktor Scratch from eBay. Just make sure that you buy from a reputable seller. I got my original Traktor Scratch off eBay with no regrets at all.
If you but Brand New you still get the 1 year warranty so theres no worries, the drawback is that you cant take a faulty Audio8 into the dealers and have them send it to NI which to be honest is no big deal.
I say if you are confident that the seller isnt shady and is selling exactly what you want, go for it.
K
ok i just spoke with NI. The one and only restriction with the Academic version is you can only install on one computer at a time. The full version allows 2. Big Whoop. And you cant sell it. big whoop again.
Worth saving 200$ to me. For the exact same features.
man I hear ya! Do you know if with the academic you qualify for future updates?
Im currently using TP and was going to buy an audio8 to use with an external mixer, but a local guy on ebay will sell me the academic version for 400.00 I don't really plan on using time coded anytime soon, but for the cost of an audio 8 it's a nice extra toy to play with if I ever want to get some technics to play with an actually just "learn"
i plan on getting it either way - just would want to know if Im stuck with the current version and thats it.
**edit:
This is whats on the NI site linked above:
I have the Educational Version of a NI product - now the new version is available. How can I update?
The Educational Version entitles you to buy the normal full version update. You can find the prices in our Online Shop. The advantage is you then own a full version. There is no educational price-reduction for updates.
does that apply to going from Traktor 3 to TSP or going from 1.2.1 to 1.2.4?

yeah i read all that FAQ today as well. Didnt help me AT ALL. So i just called the number and spoke to them. And asked exactly what is every restriction on the academic version. Basically ur not supposed to use it to make money DJ'ing wich he even said is not even enforcable so. And just that you cant sell it after. On only one computer at a time. Basically it just comes with a special encoded cerial so you cant ever take it off ur NI account. Nothing else.
How could the FAQ not help AT ALL..? pfft..!
The rules are pretty much exactly what Lethal Pizzle wrote on the first page anyway and have been repeated on this forum umpteen times.
Anyway...
@haze324
EDU prices are for full versions not updates or upgrade. So you couldnt get Traktor DUO upgrade to Traktor Scratch Pro. Only the full TSP.
ALL updates within a product version are 100% FREE always. This is no different with EDU versions.
Do it man.![]()
Karlos,
Thanks man! Makes sense. Gonna grab it this weekend and learn some timecoded. Now I gotta figure out if i want some 1200's or some CDJ's at the house to mess with!!
O shit son. My package just arrived in Seattle, WA post office today. Should be seeing at my doorstep in about 4 hours)
So fuckin Excited !!!!!! Gettin down with that timecode !!!
I feel like CDJ's with timecode is kinda pointless. And CDJ's are fuckin ridiculously exxspensive. I'd go with some TurnTables.
And you do know....You dont HAVE to shell out the money for techs, I got two Stanton STR8-80's in perfect condition for fuckin 90 bucks each mounted with headshells AND Shur M44-7's. And they perform great. Just as much tourqe as a tech.
