you still need a soundcard with the ddm.

to say the ddm mixer is a digital mixer is correct, but in the sense the components use digital circuitry to mix the audio being pumped into it...this is something separate from its midi function.
Nice catch charo! thanks. I was misinformed...

Or you'd need a MIDI controller that connects through USB and has MIDI out/through connections.

why is it you want the 1d's? are you looking to do 4 deck or 2 deck mixing? are you just starting out now or do you have experience in djing (if just starting, start with 2 decks build your style then buy more gear)? Dont let the gear aspect consume you, other wise you will never get any mixing done (been down that path...) do you want to mix within the software or send the decks out to an external mixer for EQing and crossfader use (if you even need a crossfader)? do you want jog wheels or are you going to prep your tracks and use sync so you can focus on other things like cue point juggling, looping and effects combinations? will you be globe trotting with your gear anytime soon (if not size is really not an issue it's nothing to through a bunch of bulky gear in the trunk to head over to the local pub or buddies house in the next town, given not ideal but totally do able)?

I am not trying to discourage you in the slightest, just save you time and money.
Hi, thanks for the good reply! The DDM has midi in/out plugs, but doesn't have a soundcard - thats why I need the audio 2 DJ. I could have bought a audio 8 DJ but i'm saving money if I get a midi to usb converter.

My plan with this setup is to start out with 2 decks mostly, even though I sometimes do live 'touch ups' of songs without a good dance beat, using 4 decks. I would like to have the 1Ds to control the synching of the two songs. the Synch button in traktor is nice to have, but it does not improve your skills by any means.

I'm wondering if I should just buy 1 1D. But the problem is that it only has one midi layer/channel, probably not the correct term but I wouldn't be able to have different scenes of midimapping. Would it be doable to map it with a button to shift the controls of deck A to deck B ? like cue points, start, stop and so on.

alternatively, do you recommend anything else that would serve good beside the DDM4000?

I currently use two akai lpd8's for the deck controls and a korg nano kontrol for my mixer works great for a mouse, and key board free application. I would send tsi file for the mapping if you are interested. 4 deck control and 4 bank effects and 4 deck hot cues all for under $150.00 can't go wrong with this setup. also need sound card like audio 2,either way still under $250.00.
