Maybe I am biased cos I was using a faderfox DJ2, which is small and has diddy faders etc.

i have a djm600 at home aswelland my cdj1000mk2's, so i got the best of everything lol.. although i think the vci sounds pretty damn good trhu the internal mixer myself, but thats just using my home set up, i dont play out anymore (at the minute) so i couldnt comment on what it sounds like on a bigger sound system. But ive worked in some pubs where the equipment is shite! lol, so in them situations id be glad to have the vci and use the internal mixer of traktor, cos you wont always work in places that have pioneer/allen&heath/rane mixers available for you to use!

haha, that was awesome! at first glance it looked like the worlds flashiest mixer, but when you got to it it had the worst eq's ever and didnt even have gain knobs or something stupid. Then you also realised no one used a kaoss pad ever cause it was so prone to sounding utter sh1te unless you got it spot on, everyone was too afraid to even touch it.
I remember playing a gig in ipswich and the gain knobs where on the back of the mixer so I had to get the missus to stand infront of the dj booth and give me the thumbs up when I had my hands on the right knob! That was stupid. That also had the smallest dj booth entrance in the world ever, being a portly chap I knew getting in would be like trying to re-entering the womb! i ended up having about 8 of my CD's nicked that night as well!
haha! true say, one was the dark by design promo mixes that i got off the man himself, it doesnt get better than 155bpm banging hard house version of felix - dont you want me!
I listen to hard dance now and honestly cringe! oh well, only wasted about 8 years of my life on it!
Re: Question #1. Definitely sync to the track tempo. Then key lock and pitch bend if you want to up the tempo instead of having to up the master clock. Makes for easier mixing on the fly. And if your songs are radically different tempos then the master clock isn't of much good anyway.
No exp. with Kontrol X1's... Sorry m8. Sounds like you've gotten some good feedback from those who do though.
