Epedemic: I'm not sure I understand. Are you asking if your computer would be strong enough to run it?

If you have XP installed, Windows 7 will run even faster now and tons more good looking. If you're running Vista, Windows will be a nice breath of fresh air for you.

So far in Win7 I have run basic surfing and video watching in firefox, Propellerheads Reason, Adobe Premiere CS4, Sony Acid pro 7 and more coming. Everything is running flawless, even if the system is warning about none compatible drivers or software.

Are you saying it uses less resources than XP?

Bento: I can only go by my practical and little experience and say it kicks ass Win7 feels like the natural progression from XP, Vista just feels like that retarded cousin we all have.

Speedwise and judging by performance it resembles a lot to XP, but with more user friendliness and warnings when things are not completely guaranteed by the OS. but like I mentioned, I've even run third party drivers like asio 4 all (gotta love them by the way) and it works flawlessly.

Let me know if there is anything specific you want me to try and I'll see what I can do.

So is this going to make Vista go the way of ME?

I am really just looking for some technical specs. However if someone could post some DPC latency checker results( http://www.thesycon.de/deu/latency_check.shtml ) of windows vista vs windows 7 using the exact same drivers and no software open that would be providing a bit of hard evidence that things are actually better (not that i doubt you guys for a second when you say things are better).

Dvls, Andrew and Epidemic: Yes, yes and yes. If the official release of Win7 is anything near what the Pre beta version is (which all logical thinking says: It should, if not even better) then we are looking at something that at the very least is as fast as XP SP3 if not faster. Again, keep in mind that I have been doing all my testing with full transparency, glass and all that beautiful curvines

I have been beta testing Windows since ME, and I stopped beta testing (officially) since Vista stages. I always got the feeling that the OS was stable, fast and resource friendly, until RC (Release Candidates) where released. Why?

It is very simple, as they go along, they add more crap to the code, and in the end, they overdo it. They add more functionality, more background crap services and badabing, what once looked to be a fast stable little bugger, became a crappy slow little ass bug.

I would not be surprised if the same happens with Windows 7, because remember one thing, the core/kernel is BASED on the Vista one.

The only 3 OS's that were worth working with so far from Microsoft were XP and Windows NT4. Windows 2000 Professional was THE os, but less people made drivers and software available for that when XP was released.

They should look back in time, and see what they did then, and then make an OS that runs as fine as the above 3.

As for the server versions of Vista (2003/2008) I must say that they are VERY nice, and I have not had ONE CRASH of those on my Servers so far (updtime around 180 days now)

OSX, well, thats the way I want an OS to work, but not LOOK! But hey, you can not have everything!

I have requested Beta codes from MS and will install a VM with it tonight or monday and see what gives!
