nope, you can drink liquor when 18, at 16 you can only get beer in a dutch bar/cafe/club/friettent

Age can be a barrier until you're old enough to get into the venues, getting gigs is more about getting your name out there, go to the venues, chat to promoters, chat to other DJ's
offer to cover a gig if they need a night off etc. dont expect it to happen overnight.

I've been playing for close on 13 years and still have to hustle for gigs.

Also, learn how to do lights, often the easiest way to get a foot in the door is to man a dmx console for the night, put out some smoke and apply the strobe just as the energy in the room peaks.

I started out with paid gigs when i was 15, it's not difficult you just need to know the right people, which is the difficult part unless you are lucky to have older brothers etc.

It depends on how you carry yourself.

I was playing out gigs at 15. I networked, promoted, proved myself by showing promoters tangible results and when I wanted a gig. First rave I played, I headlined and was on the flyer. (DJ Love at the time).

Pay close attention to the people you want to align yourself with and make sure your image is completely compatible with those people. I don't mean fashion either. I mean be a mature version of their conversations. Or the best of them.

The rest will fall into place.

Derek's a nice bloke - does tend to rinse the same records though, and the Jamaican accent is a total put on.
