The EQ's control frequency ranges, say you want to get rid of the bass in a song then you turn the Low knob all the way to the left - if you want to increase the bass then you turn it to the right. When the knob is in the middle no volume changes are applied to the song.

Think of the EQ's as 3 volume knobs per deck - each knob controling a frequency range in the music.

If you want to get rid of a bassline in a song, turn the low knob all the way to the left - this is in effect turning off the volume of the bass.

If you want to get rid of highhats in a song you can turn down the high knob of that track. This is a pretty explination but its enough to get you on your way.

Ok, but what would be the reason to do this? Doesn't the song sound the best without these changes? or is to mix with other songs to sound better?

Sometimes when a song is mastered the bass might be a little low, or the highs might be a little overwhelming. Also, when running through large club systems you want to accentuate certain frequencies.

When you're mixing with other songs you might want to only use the bass from one track and the mids and highs from another.

There are lots of reasons to use EQ, the end result is to make your mixes and song selections sound better.

i think one big point of using eq´s is, when a song has lower basses/higher mids etc. than the next song u want to switch to.
i mean when i´m spinning and i recognize oh the next song is much deeper - i turn down the low eq a bit to get a better transition...
