I never buy first gen of anything, macbooks, iphones, controllers, anything

Never. Let them iron out tiny glitches first, which there always always are with first gen stuff.

Not helpful advice now for OP i appreciate but worth noting for the future

Firstly if it's a huge problem i'm sure apple will do somethin about damage control. You guys should be fine. Mine didn't have a problem, it was all cause I didn't trouble shoot correctly.

Thing about the Macs now is they all run programs and such at the bit rate that they are optimized for. For example Maschine's software runs at 32 bit but most of my other programs that I run are at 64 bit so when I open the application viewer thing it shows almost all my other programs running at 64 bit while Maschine's software is still going at 32 bit.

So I just laid into my MBP, opened firefox, safari, iphoto, imovie, iweb, ableton, kore, quicktime, photobooth, itunes, photoshop, and skype and I haven't had any lock up. My problem seems to be with the USB and yet not one else has reported any issues with their usb? Curses
