    House is a genre. A pretty big and diverse (sorta) one but still a genre.

    but with the type of music you like. not nessacairly EDM in general, but like tech house, neuro funk, dubstep, or whatever fits your taste

    also, if your goal is to be a mobile dj and do weddings and birthdays on the side, it might also be best to get into the appropriate music for that.

    I use to like and play jazz and soul before i became a dj. but i still use it my mixes but i mainly use house i think. i basically have two rule when it comes to genres i dont know them very well so whatever sounds good together and what makes you dance.
