I really don't get what you've been saying about ableton being more acceptable to purist DJs than other software, as I've always found the opposite to be the case. It also seems like you're trying to force yourself to use something that you don't really like... I love ableton personally, but I know its not for everyone. Use what works for you.
well there's part of your problem... *insert bundled brand name here* edition is basically just the cut down most basic version of ableton.
you get the basics, and none of the good stuff.
at the end of the day, if its frustrating you or leaving a little to be desired - dont use it!
jump on the abletonlivedj.com forums and grab tarekith's latest dj fx rack.. he updates it quite a bit and it gets a lot of good responses from users
So…umm…Abletons effects are better than Trkator's, hands down. They actually provide decent control. Abelton and Traktor use the same time stretching algorithm, so if Ableton sounds worse…you're doing it wrong. And I prefer warping to beat-gridding…the controls are more intuitive and it's a lot more precise. Traktor is just faster because it's a lot less precise.
And, again, if you feel like you're just pressing next, well…you probably are. It's more important to press play on the right next track at the right time than it is to do anything else. That's kind of what DJs do.
But…yeah…I haven't actually DJ'd on Live for a while. Traktor is just easier, and I don't think it loses that much.
Are you fucking nuts? traktor's beat grids being better than ableton's warping? Traktors beat grids are one of the worst I've ever seen. They can't even compensate for bom adjustments and they are no where near as precise as ableton's.
If you think the effects in traktor are better than the effects in ableton you're clearly not using them very well. Also you're totally forgetting that ableton, unlike traktor, is not an all in one program. One of it's many strengths is that you can use VSTs and the like. Sure it doesn't have one polished effect with a big knob that does everything for you but you can actually fucking control the effect and use tons of them together, unlike in traktor.
And you're complaining that a DAW doesn't have a workflow and a library optimised for DJing? Are you going to start complaining that your laptop doesn't make a very good breakfast tray? Just because you can do it doesn't mean that's what it was made for.
Mine's pretty good, it's all pretty solid so you don't get that alarming flexing that is common with cheap laptops.
