Hey i kinda had the same dilema and i just bought this: Velleman VMS4N (13.5€ in store)
It's made for audio + vidéo but as it uses RCA, i can use it only for audio.
You can use it in both way so that 4 in and 1 out can become 1 in and 4 out if needed...
I hope this helps... You won't get as much control than with the "XENYX 1002" but it's cheap as hell!

Depends on what your inputs are from I suppose - but why not a cheap dj mixer rather than a mixing desk?

I haven't found a 4 channel mixer that cheap yet, but I'd buy one if there is one.

The Behringer is still the best option I've seen. The Velleman however looks like a nice cheap option too.
