I didn't get to switch the fader because the one I have is too tall unfortunately. The fader is a penny and giles fader that I extracted from a Stanton 3 channel mixer that had sound problems, but the fader is in perfect condition(tested with my Vestax 05 pro 3. (I'll look for the model number when I get home later).

I haven't got to try to switch it out to see if it works while the vci 300 is open because I'll have to solder an adapter together (I'm trying to make a plug and play invention) to switch out the fader easily and retain the original connector. But after my warranty goes out on it, I'll try and cut a rectangle hole in the back of the unit to accommodate any fader that can be used (and bump up the rubber stands on the bottom to raise the height. I been wanting to get a Pro X fade or Innofader but haven't have the funds and set out to get it.

I'll make a separate thread when I get around to open up my vci again.

    Default nice

the only thing we would need is some measurement of vci 300 space once original fader is out.

That seems to be a bit extreme in order to get a better fader in your VCI. I'd still prefer an innofader, but I'm not going that far. Maybe I'll mod the crossfader once I get the pxf in.

Anyway, I just put the pro x fade order in. I'll have full pics and a writeup for Ean to post later.

Problem #1: VCI-100 and the PXF are intended for being mounted from an external surface (see http://www.djtechtools.com/2008/11/0...00-crossfader/).

The VCI-300 crossfader is mounted from inside. As such, it is not immediately mechanically able to attach the PXF. So what I have to do (and I'm not sure I'm going to do this) is drill holes and tap the top surface of the VCI (well, beneath the plexiglass surface).

That sux. Let me ask you. Was it easy to take off the top of the vci-300? I tried and uncrewed all the screws on the sides and back (ground) , but had a hard time lifting it up.
I am trying to find a way to tighten down the jog wheels because they seem to not be so tight and wobble a bit up and down.

Default What screws to actually take off/unscrew

It was hard the first time around because I wanted to have clear understanding and take it off cleanly, just a word of warning that the inside pbc cardboards will fall off, all 3 of mines fell off, I just took regular scotch tape and taped it back on, on the sides, they are held on originally with hot glue.

Here's the screws you should pay attention to:

    1) the 2 screws on left and right sides
    .
All 3 following screws are on the back.

    2) the screw next to the AC adapter (black)
    3) the screw between the Master out (center black screw)
    4) the GND screw next to the level knob

Do not unscrew the screws that are on the RCA jacks, they are there to support the rca jacks.

claudek, the hard time you had lifting it up is because of the rubber corners that holding on to the cover tightly, just move it up mm by mm each corner and eventually you'll understand.

But for your job wheels, I believe you do not have to take off the cover, just take off the jog wheel covers/metal and plastic plate and you'll get some access to it.

But here's a shot for ya:

For everyone else, here's the fader in the vci that I did my cut lag mod on:

These shots were taken with my Iphone 3G, my real camera is 300miles away. So is the iphone pictures adequate enough for everyone?

If you're viewing the last picture on a Macbook pro, the fader is pretty much life size, bring your vci-300 next to the screen and see how it's almost exact with the jog wheel size.

I like to go extremes! But my suggestion will seem a bit more reasonable if you're focused with the VCI-300. I mod pc's and game consoles, so it's already in my ball park.

Alright, I've thought about is some, and its not too hard to install the PXF. All you need to do is really drill two holes and then use a larger drill to make a recess for the head of the machine screw (that is included with the PXF). The hard part is now figuring out how to remove the plexiglass on the surface.

I guess I need to buy a drill and some bits.

You can buy a dremel series for 20 bucks at Walmart(if you're in the states), it should be adequate enough for drillin the hole.
