Traktor and ideal screen size

I have a 15" MBP with the upgraded hi-res screen, gets 1680x1050 for the max resolution. Muuuuuuch better, imo.

What I'm wondering: what do you guys want the advanced panel for while playing? Beatgridding tracks on the fly before playing? (That'd be the only reason I can think of right now)

Having advanced mode makes it possible for you to see what beatjump length you have set and also adjust it, which can be hard to determine on a controller visually. Of course, it makes it a lot easier for you to adjust the beatgrid (assuming you don't have beatgrid clear and set mapped) as well as adjusting the BPM value itself.

I use a 4D on a MBP 13" myself, and I have a toggle to change visual layout so that I can have the global bar and Filter/Gain/Key/FX toggles show, just to be able to confirm that all my effects are set properly and that nothing is flipping out when it comes to the toggles themselves. My standard GUI setting is just the waveforms in advanced mode. No cover art, no error bar, no visual faders. Trying to keep it simple on screen and instead mirror map stuff to my 4D.

And OP, consider the bottommost rotary encoders you have on your 4D; I use my left encoder to scroll between playlists, and the right one to scroll between tracks. Pushing any of them (without additional modifiers enabled, as they have several secondary functions) toggles between normal mode and browser mode, and in browser mode - to a degree - your resolution doesn't matter. It also makes it easier at least for me to focus on finding the next track.
Sometimes people forget about the flexibility Traktor's GUI actually have, instead of wishing it had even more, such as element per element modification (I'm a dreamer too).

I would personally go with a maxed out 11", to me, right now that's the perfect laptop. I won't upgrade any time soon, but the only qualm about it (since I just purchased a new audio interface) is the lack of FW 800. However in time, once I get around to upgrading, I'd either get a Thunderbolt audio interface or a TB->FW adapter. It's certainly not anything I am troubled by now, and as for the screen resolution itself, with my workflow I wouldn't care the slightest about the lost 32 vertical pixels in Traktor.

Im on a 15" Macbook Pro, love the 1440x900 resolution.
On the high-res display the text is too small for me to read easily.
Though I am thinking of selling this laptop, and buying a new 13" Macbook Air...

You mean the list?

Yes, you can show all you need to and have the list hidden. Then have a button on toggle that hides and unhides it.

Thats how I have it. I have the 13" MB ...so my resolution is even worse.
I can show 4 decks (2 track decks and Timecode and sample deck). The 2nd set of decks are mini....due to the sample deck.

I hide the Xfader and am able to see my FX Bank on top...and then the list is only showing 2 or 3 rows. Thats the best I can get it.

Then use the show list feature.

+1 Same computer.. similar settings... good ol' back slash is mapped to switch to list view.. works fine for me.

15.6 1080P on my Dell Studio XPS 1640, more then enough res for me, i have however confirmed with NI for anyone with the same problem, and Bigboibbp, not showing the 2 fx sections + the loops recorder/ master clock section when there is enough space is a bug, should be fixed in the next few updates
