Doesn't seem to work with xfce. I did rather like it with gnome 2 or gnome 3 with unity though.

You can adjust that in the PREFS man.

It can adjust the power saving options depending on the programs you have open. Can you do that with the regular preferences?

I used caffeine for years (basically an hour after I got my first mac until about 2 months ago)…and then I quit cold turkey.
You know what works at least as well? Just go into Energy Saver, and set things to never turn off…then set your screensaver to never kick in. Works like a charm.
I just use the brightness controls if I want the screen off and a hot corner to turn on my screensaver. I never liked the fact that caffeine kept screensaver from working properly if you turned it on with a hot corner…because I do that all the time…basically whenever i'm away from the keyboard for more than 5 seconds.
But it's a good app.
Now, InsomniaX…that's where it's at…makes it so you can close the lid without the computer going to sleep. Obviously, that's going to cause heat dissipation issues, so don't do it if you have any question in your mind about whether or not you're an idiot…but it's really useful.
The problem with changing it in preferences is that sometimes you want the normal screensaver/power settings. Caffeine puts a little clickable icon on the menu bar which lets you switch between normal and always awake. It is a simple little app but the functionality is very convenient.

I think you guys are all missing the point of the app, it's for those who both desire a screen saver and do not wish it to pop up while mixing.

Couldnt have said it much better myself. I do use a screen saver most of the time. Such as searching forums or what not then dip away to the TV or something and dont close my lid. I do not want my screen just sittin there. Either way it was just my opinion if you dont like it dont use it![]()
when i use my mac normally I like it to dim and sleep to save battery. With Caffeine I can just do the preference thing with one click, then one click to turn it off. Its easy.
